thank you does it quote anyone from Sky

dont see that increasing to 14 improves the quality..lots of changes coming at Sky

we cant afford to pay the top overseas players anymore maybe its time to ban them completely or reduce to 1 per club.the only way to increase quality is to increase participation identify the talent improve the coaching/facilities to see players through the process

The report doesn’t quote anyone from Sky ,but I don’t think it was just a made up story ,as Martyn Sadler then composed vitually a full page in his column, devoted to his views on the subject ,someone somewhere has obviously leaked info about the plans or proposals .

As for reducing the numbers of overseas players to Clubs, this has been done in the past ,but with the reduction of Academy Clubs ,and the proposed increase in SL clubs there wouldn’t be the amount of quality players around ,even with this on mind Clubs are going to struggle to attract players ,we have seen this at Leigh , with Nene McDonald preferring to stay in Oz..

Again at Leigh we wanted to field an Academy side next year but the RFL turned us down , which is why I think Trevor Barton has organised this Town Team , only problem is who do they play ?

Leyther it is reported that Stone has signed u til the end of 2022, probably the same for Whitbread , if the plans for restructuring go ahead ,then whatever happens we need a complete overhaul of the Squad , as around 6 players have made plans with other teams for next season, and for me another 6 must be show the door , for us to compete in any League next year , if this new League goes ahead the likes of Fev andToulouse who I expect to be promoted will strengthen , and with 4 getting relegated it will be extra difficult to stay up .

Having said this I’m sure Derek knows this and will be making plans for what needs to be done .I would keep Ryan Brierley , Mellor , maybe Ioane , but the rest must have question marks over them .

Well I’ve just been told Joe Mellor has signed a new contract with Leigh to keep him at the Club for next season , a good move in my opinion , I hope Brierley , Elliot , and Bell are next , fingers crossed .

we have brought two reserve grade players from oz we might get lucky and they are a roaring success.
Fact is town has not produced any what you call quality players or reserve grade players for that matter for yonks I know pies academy has a few leythers in it currently but thats because pies are down on numbers coming through
perhaps someone from rangers/east/golborne can tell us what the participation numbers are how many of the kids have moved to ru
we need some joined up thinking from the top and maybe its time for that independent review trouble is we probably wont like the results

Heard a rumour will be 14 teams in SL next year. 2 divisions of 10 year after. Then 2024 3 divisions of 8 and in 2025 one division of 24. Then back to 12 and 12. This sequence will that repeat. Finally a plan for the future of RL. Each year the leagues will be rebranded for maximum marketing value so no one gets bored. Division 3 clubs will act as feeder academies reserves for other clubs throughout.

Both signings only 23 so hopefully have lots of rugby in front of them. Are they signed from KH contact with Titans coach

Wonder what happened with the other two

According to radio manchester last night restructure maybe 14 then 10 but not saying where proposal came from. Some clubs apparently prefer a more radical solution but confidentiality rule applied.
9 home games surely not enough. no appetite for pies v dire 4 times a year.Wonder if we will see nrl involved somehow to make up the games raise interest
I cannot see SL 2 will not be enough money in the pot. the other proposal floated would make that league part time with no p&r

I think & 'hope' that the 9 Home games League season will be boosted by a 9's Comp,.we've got to get the game & fans exciting & attract new young fans !
A 9's Comp would add a few games.

Derek , realistically you are right , I think all of the players you mention could be allowed to leave , they have very little to offer , then it’s down to who we bring in .?
Derek has stated he already has a Head of Rugby lined up , wether this means Haggerty is staying , is another matter , and for me we can’t rely on overseas players , we must look at home based players who are available , this season has been hard , if the proposed changes happen and I think they will then next season will be harder still, Derek and whoever is in charge must act quickly and early to get the jump on Fev and Toulouse , or whoever is promoted .

Homegrown player's, yeah I would go for some of the quality of Thornily, Russell, Hood and Mason but wait a minute.............

Given the stated ambition, I am very surprised the club did not secure those players for next season.

The justification will hopefully be in the signing of higher quality replacements,

But why have to fix something that is not broken? Even if we were to be relegated this term those players would have formed the backbone of the team in the championship, and I do think any one of them have anything to prove in SL if we are to stay up, higher quality players would only go to compliment them.

Bad management to let them go in my opinion.
