Hi Ian, I hope you're well. It looks to me that we are planning for next season. No disrespect to KH but, we really do need a quality coach to take us forward next season, as well as a good spine to make us create opportunities in attack. Our defence has been practically poor all season, so that must change, and improve immensely. This season is a lost cause now.

Good evening Derek , I’m well ,though yesterday was disappointing , and it was my Birthday as well.
We have to plan for next season , it’s reported around 6 of our current squad have found other Clubs for next year , which doesn’t leave much to serve us with , if we want to compete , yesterday we had a back 3 of Helliwell, Gee , and Thompson , for me I wouldn’t keep any of these 3 .

It’s difficult who to keep , but means we could be needing a complete overhaul , hopefully starting with these 2 Aussies , I would keep Elliot ,and hopefully Bell will stay , but I would expect Fev and Toulouse to get promoted if the plans go ahead , and they will both be looking at strengthening , so it won’t be easy to sign players , the Agents will be having a field day .

First game was in 1967, and have been hooked since day 1. Now live in Vancouver, Canada but follow our team any way I can.

Funding (or lack of it) has not been the problem this year and I don’t believe it will be a problem next year, as we will finally be on an even keel with everyone else. Plus we have an owner willing to do what is needed (which I am very thankful for).
Salary cap even for everyone, so then it’s a matter of who has the funds to recruit to that cap level.
If this goes the way it looks (and no guarantees on that with RL in this country), getting up this season and suffering, could end up being a master stroke.

Well I’m assuming we got reduced funding due to the bringing in of a new SL team , next season we would be an established SL team and therefore would get more of a funding , I’m not sure about the 2 promoted teams .

Apparently it is Sky who are insisting on the change , and they have threatened to withdraw their money if things don’t alter , I don’t know how the Pit will be shared out , but with a SL 1 and SL 2 I would expect there would be a big difference in Funds .

The players agents especially the overseas Agents will be rubbing their hands at 2 extra SL Clubs , Friday is the day the details are revealed .

Good post Ian, I agree with you mate. I still think we need a top quality Half or 2. Reynolds, Ellis, and Wallace can go for me. Sau,and Tierney can also go. Flower can go back to the garden, and McCarthy has had his day. A top quality coach is also needed too. Not asking for much am I?

Happy Birthday too pal. :CROWN:

Derek , realistically you are right , I think all of the players you mention could be allowed to leave , they have very little to offer , then it’s down to who we bring in .?
Derek has stated he already has a Head of Rugby lined up , wether this means Haggerty is staying , is another matter , and for me we can’t rely on overseas players , we must look at home based players who are available , this season has been hard , if the proposed changes happen and I think they will then next season will be harder still, Derek and whoever is in charge must act quickly and early to get the jump on Fev and Toulouse , or whoever is promoted .

thats a big assumption why would they make it 14 makes no sense but that would not be a first. it would be 3 teams with xtra so whos gonna cough up

show me where sky have said anything about restructure all they are bothered about is what they pay

we dont know all what was said at the meeting is a confidentiality agreement. meant to be another meeting this week are other proposals and all clubs have a say

Page 3 of today’s League Express , it’s under the heading ,Sky Driving RFL Restructure, and goes on to say Sky are the driving force behind the RFL s proposed reorganisation of SL for next season .

Apparently Sky have told the RFL to get its house sorted out or risk losing the SKY broadcasting contract altogether, which is why the meeting took place last Friday, the outcome will be revealed this coming Friday .

Apparently SKY are more than bothered about what they pay , they are unhappy about the quality of some games , which is why the meeting was arranged , the SKY contract runs out in 2024 .

Obviously we don’t know what was discussed at Fridays meeting , but without SKYs cash RL would be a poor product to watch, because of less funding ,and I don’t think Clubs could afford overseas player , do you ..?

thank you does it quote anyone from Sky

dont see that increasing to 14 improves the quality..lots of changes coming at Sky

we cant afford to pay the top overseas players anymore maybe its time to ban them completely or reduce to 1 per club.the only way to increase quality is to increase participation identify the talent improve the coaching/facilities to see players through the process
