I know Nicholson came with a huge reputation, and had a great debut, but after that he was no more than steady.

Longstaff, Nicholson and Holroyd all have huge potential; I know we can't keep everyone but I can think of at least one backrower I'd sacrifice before any of them.

Club needs to build a squad around the best young British players. Saints have been great because they do exactly that, rhinos before that. Longstaff and Nicholson should be the start

Warrington have asked Hull to pay 50k to release Longstaff, so we have backed away

There is a mandatory fee to sign another club`s Academy player before they reach a specific age (22??) if they are still contracted to the club that trained them.

Hull will have always been aware of this fact.

Most people who post on here want to retain Longstaff, so I hope you are correct.

Alternatively Hull could sign Oliver Holmes, and Warrington would pay them £50k...........

And so you aim towards the sky,
And you'll rise high today,
Fly away, Far away,
Far from pain....

While I'd like to see more of him in a Wire shirt before making a judgement, am I the only one who isn't quite sure about where this hype for Longstaff has come from?

Yes, he looks a keen and eager type, but I've never seen much that makes me think he's going to be any sort of world beater - also, having seen a few games he's played for Hull, his defence looks of the sort that would soon have the mob on here on his back - it looks in need of big improvement.

Overall, I think the problem on here, and among Wire fans in general, is that we are desperate to become a Wigan or a Saints, where we have a conveyor belt of SL quality youngsters, and so any youngster who gets a sniff of a first team shirt is automatically elevated into the realms of being a future great despite evidence for that being very sparse.

I know it`s a very low bar, and Longstaff`s defence has been criticised, but it is just as good if not better than some of the efforts I have witnessed from Ben Currie this season.

Yes, Longstaff needs to bulk-up but he is only 20 years old and will surely add muscle to his current physique.

I agree that he probably deserved more of a chance than he got this season, but my post was more of a question of why many of our youngsters get so much hype about them, without actually showing much to warrant it?

I fully understand that we all want the youngsters to do well and to make their way in the game, hopefully with us, but I think we do tend to overstate their qualities, without actually having much to go on, bar the odd eye-catching achievement at lower levels.

Has been made available for a season long loan.
Really hope we can bring him back to Hull.
