Lot of work to do to turn this squad around, first job appoint a new Captain. Cooper would be my call. Think pre-season will have to start earlier as well.

I think Williams needs to be given more responsibility in the team,

The captaincy would give him the authority.

The case for optimism:

Powell is his own man - I don't expect to see him having cosy pints with KF
He is far more tactically aware than Price
He isn't afraid to give his players a blast - Greg Eden an example
He will give fringe and youth players a real go, in their true positions
He played at the highest level and has bags of experience
His teams play great rugby

"I'm sorry, but I would hope that we would beat Cas with a 1 day turnaround."

An arrogant Wigan fan a few days before we stuffed them 18-4 at the JJB.

Last night was a great result for Powell.

Wouldn't be surprised if he gives Holmes the captaincy.

I've said it for years but I think your forwards as a unit are so poor.

also, because theres too many cooks, your bench suffers and you end up a forward light.

The reason we end up a forward light on the bench is team selection which comes down to? You guessed it Steve Price. He's been an awful appointment the contract extension was a second massive error.

Also how many times did he leave 1 on the bench for the whole game, just crazy.

Re: Powell. : Sat Sep 25, 2021 1:55 pm
In addition to tactical skills and no nonsense attitude I am hoping Powell can instil some grit and tenacity into the players and their ability to cope with the pressure of expectation. We have players with sufficient technical ability but their game goes to pieces as soon as something doesn't go to plan. They panic and we have no discernible leader on the pitch to steady the ship. I am also looking forward to more meaningful interviews with the press and Sky post match rather than the subjective nonsense about "I know what footy team I have", "we will learn from this" and "result was unacceptable" trotted out. I don't think Price ever accepted responsibility for the performances.

I think Powell will be great for us. It may be turbulent for the first half of the season as big egos are adjusted and players dropped or shipped out but I expect us to be better than we are now in 12 months time.

Perhaps the lack of competition for places has put some of our boys in a comfort zone or they could be carrying injuries & after effects we don't know about. Hopefully ,the youngsters can provide viable alternatives for Powell to rotate & refresh the squad next year. I was surprised Doro wasn't included last night as he had a good run out in the last home game.

I don`t think Price ever forgave Doro for going A.W.O.L for the 2019 Wembley Cup Final and has held a grudge ever since.

Stupid by Doro, but he was an Academy player at the time and made a mistake.

He was suspended by the club and that should have been the end of it, once he had served his sentence.

My choice for captaincy would be Cooper, if not then Widdop would be another obvious choice.

Hughes as a captain doesn’t strike me as someone that stamps his authority on the team and imposes himself, can’t say I’ve seen him shown true leadership at any point during his tenure so far.. If anything he’s been just as inconsistent this year as every year, yes he turns up puts in a lot of graft in defence but he’s never going to put in a big hit or break a couple tackles. He just kinda goes under the radar week in week out without having much of an impact on the side, compare him to a previous captain that lead us from the front like a Morley and the difference is startling.
