Lets be honest - through the season how many of us have argued the case that we have a top squad, with all those 'England internationals', debated threads about whether Ratchford is the best Wire signing of the SL era, hailed every contract extension as 'great news for the club', and talked about how great our youth system is because X players in our first team came through the Academy.
The honest truth is the squad is not as good as we like to think. It's not a title winning squad. Should it be able to beat Hull KR, yes. But this isn't a major upset. There are no leaders in this squad that a champion squad will have, it has been this way for the duration of Price's time.
We need a fair bit of rebuilding. I was encouraged by the appointment of Daryl Powell, but I am not really enthused by our signings for next season and given the comings and goings and injuries already sustained, I think we will go in to 2022 with a weaker squad than we had in 2021. I hope Powell can get more out of them and get them to overachieve a bit, but still I don't think we're real trophy contenders. There have been a lot of poor decisions for about 6 or 7 years now about player recruitment that will take a while to sort out.
We have not been going in the right direction since Andy Gatcliffe left. Every year we hear the same bull from KF about how last season performance was not acceptable and we're a club who aims to be the biggest of the biggest of the best etc. Every season we finish the same way.
