You'd get rid of Hughes for all that, but would keep jc, who's too small for a prop, and makes little ground?

They both do, they also both get slow play the ball but Clark seems a little bit slower there too. To their credit they're both very good defenders and will tackle all day for us. You do need a player who will go about doing all the dirty work but if that's pretty much their contribution then 2 such players is at least 1 too many IMO. I prefer players who will do that but also run a decent line and have an offload or a pass in them like Currie and from what I've seen Holmes. Longstaff has a lot of potential too but it's too early to say he's an attacking theat just yet.

The trouble with a player who doesn't release the ball is that defensive teams know that it's just being run in, so they can commit 3 or even 4 men to the tackle and slow it all right down, by the time the ball is played their whole defensive line is set and ready. The fear of an offload or a pass coming out in the tackle pretty much stops that or at least significantly reduces it and the chances of the ball being kept alive or a fast play the ball with some defensive gaps increases dramatically.

Yep. The original argument was can you have BOTH Hughes and JC in the same pack and I say no and would prefer JC as I don't rate Hughes very much. JC has an offload in his game and I do agree that he is not a prop.

Like most people on here I too assumed that he would leave at the end of this season, especially with Inglis gone.

Given that he didn`t say farewell yesterday after the match, it does like he is staying after all.

He must surely have accepted a big drop in salary and maybe he is a stopgap until Longstaff and Doro are eased into our team or we are waiting for a top line forward to become available to sign?

Price-style = Hughes and Currie with Clark off bench.

Powell-style = Currie and Holmes with Longstaff off the bench.

I think I prefer the Powell option. That right side could be so much more with Williams using Holmes or Longstaff. I know Hughes is the Captain but maybe it’s time to freshen things up a little. Who is the most resilient on-field leader for when the chips are down? What I’d give for a Farrell or Sculthorpe type personality in the squad right now.

Cooper should be captain, great player, leads by example, does big minutes, very articulate and a Warringtonian. It's a no-brainer unless he doesn't want it.

I would love for Cooper to be made captain.

Can`t recall who was the last Warringtonian to captain the Wire?

I think it must be a long time ago?

Was Cullen ever the 1st team captain?
