Whatever the rights & wrongs of GI's signing & whether or not we are a laughing stock, the fact is that we gave the sport in the UK a desperately needed shot of publicity & anything that does that needs to be applauded, in a time when the sport is dying on its ar$e.
We are also one of the few clubs that shows ambition & a little flair in its recruitment policy (probably why other club's fans display envy towards us) &, again, that can only be a positive thing.
Personally, i think fetching GI over was a gamble worth taking. Some work (Morley, Langer), some not so much (Johns, GI). .. I hope we continue to gamble in future, it would be a dull world if we never.
Top post.
Warrington are the only team that try’s to generate interest in a game that is dying on its ar$e. Whether it be signing players past it with legend status or having to put up with some of the cringeworthy social media posts that come out of the club, Wolfie etc. At least they try.
Reminds me of people slagging off Bradford Bulls antics back in the day when they played in front of 20,000 plus crowds week in, week out, only bad management of the club have seen them where they are today. I get the impression that we manage our club better.
Going back to the Bull’s that’s when Super League was in its prime and play off rugby at end of season was a novelty. To get the sport back off it’s ar$e we now need to ditch the Australian model, doesn’t work for us. Crikey it’s been going since 1996 and I speak to football fans who still don’t get the format. Why are we reliant on Sky’s money. Every contract renewal is worse than the previous.
Champions are proven over the season in my eyes not the last 3 games.
90% of the league games are now dull as dishwasher because we insist on playing the Australian style of rugby at half their standard in front of low crowds which in turn generates a boring atmosphere. Let’s get back to Champion status being given to teams who win the league over 26 games with a bit of British flair making it worth going to the match knowing the result matters.
We can then test ourselves against the Southern Hemisphere teams in meaningful international test matches.
Rant over!
