If I used the kind of language it is reported Clubb did in my workplace, I'd be sacked and rightly so.

No suspension, no previous good behaviour, no mitigation, no warning.

Wigan and the RFL have undermined the whole zero tolerance campaign to eliminate racism from the game, and you can add this to the other thread bemoaning why the games governing body is overseeing the slow, painful demise of the sport.

I don't think if you can't see the difference between calling someone fat or Southern on the one hand and racially abusing someone on the other that there is much to discuss. It is so self evidently on a different scale that you're not going to get it. I have left out the reference to calling him a white whatever as that is a whole different argument.

In the heat of confrontation and wanting to cause as much offence as possible all kinds will get said. Context is everything and offence is subjective for all we know if clubs was called a fat ..... that might hurt him to the core. Nobody else that I know of has come forward to complain about clubb so doesn't have a history of abusing players of colour. Abuse is abuse, I don't think its right to say some is no problem and others is bannable even more so than forearming someone in the face. I think it detracts from real racism.

You'd get sacked if you used lots of insults that get used on a rugby pitch nevermind hitting them round the earhole with your forearm.

The nub of this is respect for other people. Racism shows a lack of respect.
See https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/ru ... r-20523560 ... another horrendous example in our sport.

Deserves his ban, winding up opposition players I'm sure happens all the time (see Jake Connor) but any sort of discriminatory language oversteps the mark IMO. Time to stamp it out for good.

I'm actually impressed by how quickly this was all sorted by the RFL and Wigan, that shows they've taken it seriously. I must confess, I thought this would be rumbling on for a couple of months and would fizzle out with not much done, so we'll done to all concerned. I'm sure Tony Clubb isn't a racist, he has enough team mates that he likely considers to be mates and even a coach whose origins are the pacific islands, but he has let them down, himself down, his club down and his sport down and I'm glad an example has been set for this.

I think the best thing Clubb could have done for himself would have been to immediately recognise the gravity of what he'd done and apologise on the field, followed by coming back on at the end and making up with Savelio. I don't think he's likely to have any real racist beliefs but he's said something that is unquestionably a racist slur and we need to show the public that RL doesn't tolerate this sort of thing.
