Thought they played well today, the forwards provided them with real go forward yet again. The scoreline was closer than it should have been at the end. Thought Mathers played quite well to be honest for someone who's just come back from an op. He joined in the line well and was directing a lot of the play. Wigan got on his back from the moment he was there and look how he turned out. So let's get behind the lad from the off.
I think he will be the starting full back next week, which I believe would be harsh on Riley.

Thought Mathers was excellent today. Directing things in the line & looked class. He would be a great addition to the 3 quarters line for us

Thought Mathers had a solid game, but wouldn't say excellent. Shouted alot but not really directing. But considering he has just come back from an op, think he will improve vastly and be a asset. Thought Lee Mitchell stood out today and Alex Thompson had good game from dummy half.

Really impressed by the 15 that came on harvey, great defence tackled back well to bring down the winger brown, looked very strong, put a great kick through for penny. Good performance all round today we coughed up to much possesion 2nd half but a few encouraging efforts.

Thought Mathers was class, seeing passes quickly and making things happen.

The right hand side of our defence looked shaky with McCarthy and Penny struggling at times.

Lee Mitchell and Adam Neal also played very well in my opinion, and the full back for Huddersfield was one of the quickest players I have ever seen, he scored a great try towards the end.

Watching the game yesterday, it is pretty obvious that the overall standard of play isn't that good & is a long way below the standard of SL.

I wonder which players would benefit from a loan spell to the national leagues to toughen then up? My list would include:

Penny
McCarthy
Blythe
Mitchell
Thompson

I don't see how it can be, simply on the basis of the number of players who play in the reserves week in wek out, then step up & make an immediate impact. See Penny, Ainscough, Wheeler, Ashurst, Tomkins, Watkins and on and on ...

I didn't go yesterday, a friend did, he didn't think it was the best game in the world, and it was the worst he'd seen the reserves this year, but I think it was more of a 'bad day at the office' rather than the standard being cack. In SL, we'd say it's good to win when you're not at your best, and they continue to lead the reserve league.
