With all due respect, tosh.
You're OK to "roll the dice for a change with the risks involved". Well, we've rolled the dice.
The chips are all gone, and the croupier has thanked us for our custom.
I don't know if you've realised, but this is professional sport. He, and his side, are failing MASSIVELY. Given that other underperforming clubs (in any sport) have never sacked their underperforming playing roster before, I dare say Powell's job is over, if we lose our next two. Changing the culture. He has. Two big losing runs in a matter of months
Yes. Price underachieved and his sides played drab rugby, but he never dragged us down to this level.
Go on. Admit it. We've ####ed up appointing Powell. It's no loss of face. I came to accept it, weeks ago.
As to who would I appoint, well that's down to our embarrassing CEO/COO or whatever his job title is.
I'd have had Wane in a heartbeat.
Yes, he's bluff
Yes, he whinges
Yes, his rugby might be as bland as Price's..... BUT..... HE WINS.
I'd take a couple of drab years rugby, so we can FINALLY win the league, thank him for his time, and then go back to entertainment.
Powell is giving us neither
I'm Gaz, not Tosh - wasn't he that bloke from the Bill?
We'll never find out the final outcome of the dice roll until Powell gets his squad sorted which won't be til at least the start of next season. Surely you can't judge fully until the rotten apples are out.
These players have been have been gash for 6/7 years under 3 different coaches and you're expecting another (4th) coach to come in a get a tune out these players - now that's tosh.
We need a clear out and a culture change to win the GF. If you're one of the lazy players on top dollar, are you going to be happy that the coach is implementing a more rigid regime which denies players free time within working hours etc? No, you're going to buck against if you're one of our lazy/cant be arsed players. And when the coach says "you'll need to to participate in the new system, or they're won't be a contract renewal" - our players, as demonstrated, have downed tools.
Defense is mostly down to attitude and that's why our defence is poor - it's mainly down to lack of effort. If you want the cultural mentality of a GF winning club, we need players who are willing to put the club first and train with this mentality. A fair number of our key players are not willing to change, so we have 2 choices:
Get rid and replace players, buying into Powell's vision and keeping faith knowing that it's going to be a tough year.
Or try a 4th coach to get a tune out of these players.
You mentioned Shaun Wayne. He said himself on Sky Sports that the Warrington job was a big challenge. I wonder why that was? On paper we have one of the best squads. Perhaps he, like many of us, recognise that we need a fundamental rebuild and there's no quick fix. Do you think Shaun Wayne would have let players go early? Of course he wouldn't. So I'm guessing the players would have downed tools for him, or any other coach brave enough to come in and do what's necessary.
Evidence strongly points to it being a player/cultural problem. Get red of the chaff and judge Powell when he has his players working under his culture. Get rid of Powell and the lazy booty/complacent/don't give a monkeys players who don't give a damn about our club have won. And we end up with another yes man coach, pandering to our pathetic players and the cycle of underachievement perpetuates.
