Name: John
Sex: Male
Age: 67 (Probably oldest person on this forum)
Reason you picked your Forum name: Because I'm old, I'm a man and my name is John.
Family: wife, 2 sons, 1 Grandson + 1 Granddaughter
Location/Country: Goldthorpe, South Yorkshire
Occupation: Retired, but used to work as a salesman.
Favourite player Wire: Adrian Morley
Favourite ex player Wire: Brian Bevan
Favourite current player non Wire: Kevin Sinfield
Favourite ex player non Wire: Johnny Whiteley
Favourite NRL team: Brisbane Broncos
Team you have a soft spot for (either SL/Championship): Sheffield Eagles
First Match you saw: Wire v Wigan around 1954. I was a 10 year old and went with my dad, remember being in awe at the size of the crowd, wondering who the old man wrapped in bandages was playing for the Wire. My dad said "That's the great Bev" and was he great. Never been a winger like him since, nobody can touch that record. I'm proud to have seen him play.
Favourite match: Warrington v Australia 1978.
Worst match: Warrington v Wigan Challenge Cup Semi-Final in 1989 at Maine Road - that Joe Lydon drop goal.
Favourite away day: Any game in the Challenge Cup at a lower league club, just love going to the grounds where we don't go that often. Would be nice to play Dewsbury away in the cup.
Least favourite away day: Bradford on a cold, wet, Sunday afternoon
Favourite ground (not HJ): KC Stadium
Least favourite ground: New Craven Park
Favourite Wire memory: Bev's last game against Leigh at Wilderspool. Not a dry eye in the ground that day.
Painful Wire memory: That Joe Lydon drop goal at Maine Road
Favourite Kit: 1974 Challenge Cup Final kit
Worst Kit: Red and Green Christmas tree around 1993.
Exact distance from HJ to your home: (try google maps directions for that one WA2 7NE) 62 miles

Re: Introducing ourselves to each other : Sat Feb 18, 2012 11:48 pm
Everyone else has done it, so here goes;
Name. John (also known as JC).
Age. Over 50.
Occ. Retired Law Enforcement Officer.
Status. Married, two grown up daughters.
First starting watching the Wire. Jan 1966, first round RL Cup v Cas. W 15-7.
Favourite all time Wire player. Parry Gordon. Best Wire Scrum Half I will ever see.
Favourite current player. Adrian Morley.
Best ever Wire moment. RL Cup win, 2010. I saw the '74 and '09 wins, was there in '75 and '90 when we lost, but after 20 minutes against Leeds, I knew that we weren't going to lose.
Worst ever Wire moment. 1970, home match, lost 0-50 v Salford at Wilderspool. We were about as low as we could get.
Favourite other side. Gateshead Thunder
Favourite other Ground. Central Park..
Favourite other sports. Local RU, Cricket, watch the Boro occasionally.
Hobbies. Most team sports, WW1 (just completed a study of my first of 11 Wire players who died in the Great War).

Whilst the anonymity of forums may or may not be a blessing depending upon your point of veiw and it might not be everyone's cup of tea, does anyone ever meet up in the real world, say for example on match days? I know this might not be welcome week in week out, as we all presumably have routines and other commitments, but, say for Magic Weekend or a big cup game away an opportunity to put faces to names and have a pint pre/apres match?
