I know that it was a bit of a bizarre afternoon as far as the game goes so much so that most of the talk has been about who's staying and going and the after match send off but I'd like to say that I thought the young lads did us proud today Thewlis was Thewlis Wrench was solid Ashton despite his gaffe did enough for me but most impressive of all IMO was Longstaff I thought he was excellent
Longstaff is already very good, he will be superb. No problem with Clark staying, he'll probably be on reduced wages and, whilst far from spectacular, does lots of little things right and would be a very good squad player in today's climate.
I suppose that's true, in all honesty I've never had a problem with Clark I think it's Clark and Hughes playing at the same time that has wound me up. We are too negative and there is no link between forwards and backs. I think it's a big reason why we have looked so toothless in attack in recent times.
Beforehand I wasn't bothered about the result of this game as it was immaterial to our season. A win is a win, and given the lack of grunt without Hill and Cooper, hardly a given. Believe it was a poor game, but that is not of any consequence either, and I'm confident we'll be better on Thursday.
Longstaff was a stand out again for me. I think he’s put himself in the frame for a spot in the play off team, likely on the bench but I would start him.
Austin also looked quite dangerous at times, obviously the Charnley try he had a hand in but I thought he carried well. He could find himself on the bench too.
The rest, realistically, haven’t done enough to change from plan A.
Gonna be honest, I've not been on the longstaff hype train so far, he's done alright, we've not used him much other than to accommodate moving Hughes to the middle. And even for an academy player thought he was a bit small for a BR.
Pricey obviously trusts him though.
Yesterday though, Holy poop, when he got moved to prop, fair play to the lad, he was sticking it to the Salford defenders when hitting it up.

Yes, Longstaff did look good, even though he was coming off the bench. It will be interesting to see how much muscle weight he puts on in the off season. He certainly has a bit of 'attitude' and works his socks off. I liked the bullet pass that Thewlis made when he looked to be trapped in his own goal area in the first half. For me that sort of play defines him, he is so turned on with a great rugby brain. I see his brother Jake who is in this years U16's played for the U19's yesterday and scored another try as we beat Saints away 24-22.( I assume Saddened will be on here shortly to tell us that they only fielded 11 players and they were all U11's.) We might have another quality player coming through !
