Goodhart's Law: once you start using a particular measure as a target for success then it loses its information content because people start gaming the system just to get results on that measure
eg when you start judging coaches by trophy count you get them gaming the system by picking weakened teams in the league the game before a cup semi or cup final, or rotating their squads during the year just to try and keep them fit for the playoffs
That has skewed results and has damaged rugby league.
It sounds like the sort of thing New Labour would have done, published performance tables on coaches by how many trophies they'd won, Ian Millward would have been given a seat in the House of Lords as the government's Elite Performance Tsar.
I think you are right. Once Moran decided to judge TS on the number of trophies he collected, we were always on Goodhart's downward spiral. Despite all the hard work by the RFL to produce a imaginative playoff system, rugby league has been totally shafted.
The good thing with this thread is if we win the Grand Final we can make some graceless comments like Sinfield and McDermott did, "everyone was writing us off, nobody gave us a chance, except those lads in the dressing room, this is for all the haters, stick the SL trophy up your booties"

Oh please, no.
The most charismaless man in the world, giving the most churlish victory speech, ever.
I'd rather Morley just give a cheeky wink to the camera, and say " a big thank you to all the naysayers on RLFans' Warrington page, who want rid of Smith and think we aren't a big club", after which he unfurles a banner saying "cheer-up, internet doubters"

What I really want to know is how JD rocket gets the time to make all these superb pen and ink hand drawings, photograph them, convert to a suitable format, and then post them as his avatar ?
If you want we can do a coach swap Tony Smith for Brian Mac!! I will drive him to the HJ personally! Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please!!!
We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.
I'm not a regular on the warrington boards so it's hard to know who to take seriously, when it's just words on a page, some people have seamed close to suicidal after the Warrington loss in the last game.
If it's tongue in cheek in responce to the OP then fair enough.
