I'm just sick of the WWF style hyperbole, they're so desperate to sell the game, it's awful.

Isn't it just. The use of outdated clichés and phrases "brains trust", "big unit", "text book tackle".

Just comment on what is seen with accuracy and insight and get some relevant "colour commentators"* who have played the modern game in the last 15 years who have some semblance of articulation and expression who can describe the things we may not see or be aware of. Ideally ex players who don't sound thick or a parody of themselves. There is no need for attempted humour or jokes - this is pro sport. We have other channels for comedy.

JD is a legend but the game moved on decades ago.

I think we may be expecting too much. Is there any commentator that is loved by all after they've been on TV for a while? They all get a bit annoying after a while. I quite like a bit of humour but of course sense of humour is an individual thing. I like JD but know he says the same things a lot. If everything in the world is annoying it's probably us who are just too critical.

Hemmings got a lot of hammer but given current crop I’d have him back in a heartbeat. That Sean Dyche wannabe yesterday was awful.

It says a lot that they are all from the past & none from Rugby League. I don't think it's easy & it's hard not to be repetitive. The commentator yesterday gets too excited for me & shouts too much but no-one is perfect. I do actually like several current cricket/rugby union commentators/pundits.
The rugby league lot seem so intent on showing what a tough game it is.

I wish, infact any of the commentators and pundits from NRL would do nicely. Would even have James Graham than some of ours. One for the future when he retires is Ryan Hall.

I don't want someone who has recently, publicly, declared his hate for us! If I was even another team's supporter I wouldn't want someone so biased commentating.
