Look at Maradona, footballing legend, yet forever tainted with the stigma of being a cheat....OK, Richards would be on a much smaller scale, but considering it was obvious to everybody who saw the replay, you can't help but feel that there will have been a slight tinge of guilt in his head as the video ref deliberated his decision.

i dont get that. why? im sure he would of been happy with the try given.

if anything i bet he thought looking at the screen arrrr you can see i touched it hes not gonna give it.

and anyway it would of been the video refs decition not his so why would he feel bad or get any stick.

Aye, but Alex has done it mostly at an English club....when he managed their national side he couldn't even get them past the group stages of the World Cup...

As for the fellow on the bike??....Fair enough, good acheivement, but in a true minority sport which most people don't give a flying wotsit for.... ....You'll be fetching up those Scottish housewives doing that curling malarky next!!

Ah but he's British. Once he loses, then he becomes Scottish.

Maradona is a legend anyway, everywhere else they remember the other goal he scored in that game, undoubtably the greatest in World Cup finals history. The hand of God was just one in the eye for Margaret Thatcher.

Slight correction.....For 2 weeks every year he becomes British, for the rest of the time most people don't give a monkey's whether he is Scottish, British or Chinese, because for most folk Tennis is tedious rubbish...

going back slightly on thread, watching the footy show on thursday night, gus gould was lamenting the poor decisions from the video refs, and particually the dragons/dogs decision, and it seems that there is a growing tied of support of getting rid of video refs altogether down under. they have two refs on the field, and two touch judges so should, and will this be enough, or is the video ref a valid option still?

i never really have gotten the feeling that super league has embraced the video ref as much as perhaps they could have done. not having it at everygame due to the cost has never sat well with me, and i do believe it should be time for an all or nothing approach...every game, or no games. perhpas we could put the video ref on the field and do away with him. whatever is to happen tho, the standard of officails has got to return to its previously high standards

There's always the likelihood that in the full flow of the game even the player himself can't be 100% what has happened all of the time, especially in situations like this one. If it's an instance where they don't ground the ball etc and it's obvious then I'd agree with you I think.

i can't remember in the super league era any player owning up to something whilst the video ref is looking into whether a try has been scored or not, there have been a lot more obvious incidents than the pat richards one, so can't understand why they would start now, in fact the season wigan nearly got relegated pat richards had a try disallowd at wakefield which cost us the game, there where enough wakefield players around to know that one of them knocked the ball out of his hands, richards caught it and grounded it but a knock on was given, imagine the wakey fans reaction if one of them owned up and cost them the game as they where in relegation trouble themselves. i think it's swings and roundabouts some are given that shouldn't be and some aren't given that should have been a try. the video ref is there to make the decision not the players.i think rl players in general are on the whole sporting especially compared to football.
