I'm not sure what I feel about this news to be honest. Take Paul Wood out of it as I think he deserves another two years. He's looking like he's putting his injury jinx behind him now, like Grix appears to be, and Johnson, and Bridge, so it all bodes well really. There's not too many good props knocking about, so when you have one, and he wants to stay, keep him.
The other two, I'm on the fence really. I'd quite like to have seen both go really. I know there's still big potential in Louis Anderson and somebody may have got that out of him had we got rid, but I'd rather have seen us go out and get something different, that ball playing back rower that we don't have. With Hicks, he's been steady, but I don't think we'd miss him really, I'd have liked us to have used the quota spot elsewhere, if we wanted a winger desperately, get an English one, or use the number of academy prospects that we have that we seem to be backfilling.
Having said the above, a bit of me thinks that continuity seems the key in SL, Saints & Leeds don't do 10 in 10 out year on year, it's one or two max, so I can see the logic, you try to keep this group together, this group will be getting to grips with Smiths structures, ethics, ways etc, you have to be building towards something, to pretty much decimate the squad at season end would take you back to square one, as oppose to bringing in a few new faces who add strength, and they come into an enviornment that is solid, has continuity & they bed in easier because of this.
