Goes back to the mining strike's, the people in the region were on strike for so long they had no money left to live, eventually due to this they were forced back to working down the mine's in order to feed there family's, it was said that by doing this they were eating humble pie.

Hence the name Pie eaters.

I thought the term was based on the fact everyone from Wigan is fat and ugly and has Meat and Potato breath. I think Uncle Joe opened a mintball factory to overcome the stench but this failed miserably!! :D

Well done.

The fact we like pies is a co-incedence.

the pie eating capital of England is actually Norwich.

LWF was spot on with his reason for Wigan's nickname

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

What people never say is that they may have been the first to go back to work, but they were one of the first out on strike and were out work for longer than most.

At the end of the day they had a duty to feed their families.
