A happier King but what about Prince Penny? : Mon Apr 27, 2009 11:24 am
I think the corner has been turned by Kingy after his brief moment of madness of hand gestures and poor form we are now beginning to see the real Matt King in terms of his perfomances and his body language seems to suggest that he is happy at the club. We are now seeing King receive the ball a lot more and utilizing his strengths. Yesterday at Huddersfield he was shouting for the kick from Briers to the in goal, it’s a shame the execution wasn’t there!

But sadly his former 'partner in crime' is languishing in the reserves. Nothing against Johnson, he is solid defensively but he aint a winger, his pace is non existent anymore. And Johnson is far from good under the bomb as the Giants found out yesterday!!! I was watching a re-run of the Penny try v Saints last year in the cup (the one where Monaghan flicked it to Hicks and Penny outpaced Long and Meli!) and thought that no way in a million years would any other SL side not want to utilise his pace. Not many wingers in the world would have scored that try, deffo not Johnson anyway!!! Look at how Saints persevered with Gardner who was a mistake machine in the past but is now Englands first choice winger.

I would like to think that under Smith's coaching we could again see the King and the Prince re-united!

Looking back to his two try performance against Leeds at Headingley, superb wingers tries. The day KP announced himself on the SL scene.

As we are about to sign another winger, will his future be at another club?

I think it will be criminal if he leaves, but I'm sure TS must have big plans for him.

With Hicks and Riley playing so well and Mathers the next back in line to make the squad, Penny may have to wait a fair while.

Why change a winning formula?

Exactly, i believe that the progress of Warrington Wolves is more important than the progress of Kevin Penny. If he gets left behind and the club moves along without him, then we move on end of story. For the time being he has got to continue to work hard in reserves and get on with it and wait for his next opportunity.

Didn't he get a good catch yesterday, jumping in ahead of Riley?

Am sure that was Hicks, or Hicks did something similar to that. Johnson does look weak under the high ball, not confident at all as he let another one bounce. Not a winger.

Hicks did on far side (did a little jump). But was thinking of the one on the left side towards south stand.

no way will penny be in the first team anytime soon!

his perfomances for the reservers show nothing to warrent a first team place. his positioning is poor and his defence isnt upto first team level.

Yeah but he has one thing that the current backline lack - pace. Okay Hicks aint no slouch and neither is Riley but can you say that they have the same speed as Prince Penny?

Positioning can be worked on! Look how Wigan improved Martin Offiah from a raw speed machine!

Maybe a move to another club would be the best move for him as a player?? I would hate for him to be remembered as a player with blinding pace who never really made the grade.

Johnson Hicks and Even Rauhihi "jumped in ahead" of Riley .......

which suggests to me there is a lack of confidence in Riley himself to take kicks ...or there is a lack of confidence in his team mates with him....either way I think he (Riley) will make way for Mathers
