I dont post on here very often, mostly because for a supposed forum most people on here arent really that interested in other peoples opinions, although I do like to visit regularly. You do find out the odd bit of "insider" info that isnt always available to the general Rugby League public, you can read some of the interesting rumours that pop up now and then and generally get a feel for how our fans and the fans of other clubs feel about whats happening at my club. I'm pretty downhearted by how our season is ending/ended and it is difficult to stay optimistic for our prospects in the MPG (which despite everything im sure we will still make) given how obviously low on confidence the players and most of the staff in and around the club seem to be. What I am sick and tired of reading about are the unforgivable reasons some so called supporters are giving for staying away at a time like this. People talk about the move to Barton and how this signalled the beginning of the end due to its inaccessibility and general soulessness. Well for those that talk about its inaccessibility I would like to point out that its 3 miles from Weaste! Im not suggesting that everyone walk it but how much extra effort does it really require from supporters. I live in North Wales and I work in Stoke and so far ive only missed 1 home game this season due to family reasons. I dont expect the same pat on the back that it seems some of our supporters do for coming either. I choose to do it because Its MY CLUB. It seems to me that if more people were willing to get up off there booty then the ground wouldnt seem so lifeless either. I understand that getting away from the ground can be a problem at times, but really the more local supporters should by now know the ways round getting away from the game in a bit more timely manner. And in all honesty from what i heard its far less painful these days anyway. It isnt really the clubs fault that the relief road still isnt ready after all this time, My understanding is that they have done pretty much all they can. I get the impression that a good proportion of so called Salford "Fans" basically only want to watch a winning team, that plays at the end of there road, with a multi millionaire owner who bank rolls the club at a loss, but never rocks the boat, keeps quiet and indeed is grateful for any fan deeming to grace the ground with there presence. People are entitled to spend there money however they chose, But can we please remember that the club, for better or worse, are there for our benefit, not the other way around. Im not from Manchester, nor am I from a place near Manchester. I am from Salford. We have our share of detractors, but it is my experience that on the whole Salfordians are proud of being from Salford. and i a time when our cultural and social identity as Salfordians is being eroded more now than ever, why people wpuld let the cities only elite proffessional sporting club dissapear forever is beyond me. If people are happy to let the club dissapear out of existsnce due to bloody mindedness and laziness then maybe we dont deserve a club at all. The team this year on the whole have been competitive and good to watch. The issues that have come to light resulting in us scrapping for survival rent the players fault. These lads deserve more than they are getting from Big sections of the Salford Support. Sorry for the rant but I needed to get this off my chest. Hope weve still got a club to talk about next year.
