Isn't a successful club about getting a good mix of players that offer different attributes rather than just a team of highly paid superstars? I think some people honestly think we can buy our way to silverwear by signing the most expensive players available. It's a bit sickening that some people turn their nose up and rubbish players we would have welcomed happily a couple of years back.
It is, and I see the point you're trying to make.
However, we have a totally different squad than a couple of seasons ago. Should the backroom team and owner opt for the weaker player if two players became available? Should they hold their cash and ambition in check for the sake of parity for a the team of yesteryear? Like a newly promoted Premiership side only signing League 1 players because that's where they were a couple of seasons ago.
If a team and Club desires success it needs to bring in what it sees as the best at that particular time. Sometimes that will be the type of player you're suggesting, and sometimes it wont be. People are not turning their noses up in any way. They just observe that for the team to have a chance at greatness its ambition in the transfer market is a signal of its intent.
