Re: Wigan away : Wed Feb 24, 2016 7:22 pm
I agree that people need to reign their expectations in. I didn't think we played that well on Sunday. We made far too many mistakes and overplayed when there was no need to.

If we make as few errors as we did against saints we will have a chance but Sunday showed that we intend to move the ball a lot sp it is hard not to make mistakes. If we'd played more sensible rugby at times then I don't think Widnes would have got near us. When we were 12-0 up I was convinced we were going to lose because of how we were playing. After going 22-0 up I was more confident but we still nearly lost.

That is not because Widnes were amazing. They were good but unspectacular. If we play anything like that against Wigan we will lose comfortably. Wigan are a much better and more experienced team than Widnes. They will punish us. Hopefully we will play more like we did against Saints :)

Not seen such a poor reffing display in a long time, extremely strange decisions going against both sides.

Although I couldn't see from the other end, a lot of people saying that it was a blatant knock on prior to the last try.

First half though we were our own worst enemy and the likes of Lui didn't look interested, not sure we actually attacked their line.
The set completion rate for the entire game mustn't have been more than 30%.

In defence Carney frustrates so much always stands 10 yards in leaving his winger which Wigan exploited numerous times.
Second half we seemed to switch on and realise we still had s chance, that try from BMM where he steam rolled Farrell I think I'd like to see again.

Real arm wrestle which could've gone either way and a share of the spoils would've been a fair result.

I've seen some poor refereeing at schoolboy/amateurs level, but that takes the biscuit.
Terrible for both sides.

In the first half we must of made a clean break around 3 times including an earlier one from Lui however the support play was poor again and we pi$$ed away them chances which could of led to us winning.

I wasn't referring to breaks from inside our own half, more to putting pressure on the goal line from their 10 yard line.

So close yet to far.

We're starting to become a lot more consistent as a team, and although we made too many errors and missed a few chances, I'm not disheartened at where we are at this stage of the competition. We'll pick up wins away from home, and as long as we stay strong at home we'll be in a decent position come the end of the year. For a very new team we're really gelling at a rapid pace and I'm looking forward to our team strengthening when our long term injuries start getting back to fitness.

I'm cautiously optimistic for the future as things stand. Onto next week.

A really decent effort last night, irrespective of Wigan's injuries. How the ref didn't see that knock-on is beyond me. In front of the Sky cameras the outcome could have been different.
