Re: Hull K R : Sun Mar 20, 2016 9:19 pm
Evalds was rusty but it's clear GOB has to be first choice full back going forward. The switch in the second half gave us back that threat we have seen so far this season. Tim has said he doesn't see Evalds as a full back but more a centre so we shall see where his career goes I guess.

I thought a lot out there today were poor. KR at times were easily winning the ruck and why we were giving so many penalties away. Bad day at the office or the wrong mentality of thinking would be an easy day?

Lee had a so so game. In defence he put some big tackles in but he was to blame for a couple of there tries. He did though, when he moved in to the halves in the second half offer us more than GOB had in the first and was surprised they took him off when they did as we were very much on the front foot at the 65th minure mark.

Although he took his try well I just don't get Johnson. He is a quick and strong lad but that skip and jump as he reaches the defender loses him all momentum. In defence he cost us some yards and drop outs today. That said, if we only actually used him and Carney as wingers they can be, we would score so much more down the sides. I lost count of the times KR created 3 on 2's out wide against us but we simply don't do that when we have the option as both Sa'u and Griffin do not put that extra pass in. If I was the winger outside them two I would be cheesed off at the lack of service. Against Wigan in pre season I though it showed when JJ played centre to Carney and we opened them up so many times down that side but have not gone back to that again.

G. Griffin and Kopchazk were good today but the rest of the pack just weren't up to scratch.

2 big games coming up this weekend and if we are to make a push to be in the right places come the end of the season we need to be much better than that today

OK Smartar$e - you see Evalds in this system they are playing? A great finisher & turn of foot so- acting half back could be a role. Did you go today? Presume you are happy then with Juniors service to Carney? The day job? Yes its given up already and I will be reading League Express at 9.30 on Monday. Again I ask - Did you go today?

Have said a few times Evalds to hooker, Peter Edwards did that with great aplomb.

Speed, can tackle, has a good pass there's nothing really stopping the club trying him there.

As for him at centre again would work, maybe it is a reaction to no Carney next season when we are a back line player down with one waiting in the wings.

No need to be like that.
I didn't go today but going today has no relevance to your ideas on Evalds and Sau.
I'm glad Niall played today because I wanted him to have his chance. I think he's a tremendous player. He's not a hooker.
Junior has done well since he lost weight but he's not a forward and never will be.
The point I suppose I'm making is that players either perform in their positions or they are replaced. You don't just change their rôles to accommodate them

Agree MR re Edwards & that I think was in the days of contested scrums too (could be wrong there) - many Twitterers tonight feel NE could possibly replace Tomkins on the bench so maybe they dont feel the same as Bonita either.

Crash, bang, wallop back down to earth. Good job Campese, Lunt and Kelly weren't playing. Clearly a lack of attitude from certain players was the difference. Credit to Hull KR their attitude and enthusiasm won them the game even with a depleted squad. Gee Whiz conceding 44 points hurts but to concede 44 to the basement club with a depleted squad destroys me. Was there an element of complacency? Did the Evalds / O'Brien fullback alteration disrupt the dynamics of our attack ?. Absolutely lost for words. Gutted ain't the word.

Webster said we had NINE out injured today which left him with Eighteen to select from so pretty much anyone who put there hand up got a game, he also added they were down to as few as eleven training at one point in the week.

Salford being Salford have obviously dined out on a couple of good performances and were never going to put a run together against the basement club when we could make sure they got there first victory of the season, and as a bonus let them post nearly half a century.

Never mind only Catalan on Friday who nearly managed there own half century at Hudds.

Watsons comments are interesting and accurate I think:

"Certain individuals weren't doing their role in the team. If certain individuals are not prepared to play, that's what happens.

"They started completing their sets at 100 per cent and that makes it hard to defend against.

"We're an honest group and we spoke honestly about the first half where people were letting us down. We put it to the players and they agreed."

Re: Hull K R : Sun Mar 20, 2016 10:56 pm
One (admittedly bad) loss doesn't warrant swapping half the team's roles. I thought Tomkins had one of his better games for us. Not saying much I know but thought he was ok today.

First half was so disappointing. Hull KR didn't do much special they just ran hard and kicked well. And we let them score 5 tries in 30 minutes. Despite that we could have won it. A few players looked like they weren't focussed. Johnson was poor - indecisive, running sidewards, slow to cover kicks. Evalds was poor in defence and attack. Carney was poor too in the first half. We never got on the front foot from our kick returns and that had a big impac. I heard Thorniley interviewed on radio humberside and he talked about how they'd been working on stopping those 3 on kick returns so maybe we should credit KR for that. Their kicking game was very good. But we were dropping off tackles in a way we haven't in the last 5 games. Dobson and GOB seemed to be trying to have a side each to control in the first half and it didn't work

Second half the halves kept worlking on the same side and Lee and Tomkis played pivots at times and we looked like a different team. But once we got within 12 points we started trying to score off every play and made mistakes. We we were playing panic football with 20 minutes left. We made mistakes and invited them back into it when they were starting to break

Thought Dobson and G Griffin were excellent and didn't deserve to be on the losing side

Injuries the curse of our season. The spine of Kelly, Campese and Lunt all missing along with centres Salter and Minns, forwards Larroyer and Donaldson. We had only eighteen fit players and several played with pain killing jabs. Horne and Greenwood were unable to play second half. Get these back and our fortunes will improve but tough at the moment.

Evalds would make as good a job at hooker,as anyone else in the team.
In truth I agree with Mr Sheens view, that he isn't a full back.
Truthfully I would see Evalds in the centres or wing.
