Re: Worst match attendance EVER : Mon Jun 20, 2016 12:21 pm
Whilst Mario might be trying to cause trouble, we have to admit he has a very valid point. And for the second season in a row we haven’t broke 2k against Huddersfield. Sadly I don’t see attendances improving anytime soon. The move from the Willows has killed us. When MK took over we had another chance, years on we are still in the same position as we were then and to many broken promises have made fans vote on their feet. When we re-branded a massive mistake was made in NOT including the name SALFORD in the badge. We now play in a crap stadium, paying top bucks. We no longer have an identity. John Wilkinson has a lot to answer for, as ultimately he was down to the move. If you look at our attendances in the past two seasons at the willows compare to the past two years at Barton we are down massively. We have lost around 1.5k – 2k fans. (I am only going off Wiki) Att: 1,972 - 2015
Att: 1,958 - 2016
Att: 3,458 – 2011
Att: 4,041 – 2010
We would still have a chance of top 8 if we had our points back, but the fact is we don’t and again it is another season fighting at the bottom. Whoevers fault that is doesn’t matter, fans are just sick of it.
I noticed a post from Salford the other week saying they are going to be making a ‘big promotional drive’ – I wonder what this will entail or will it just be the usual reduced tickets that nobody knows about? The sad reality is even if we had a top 4 side, I struggle to see us break 4k home fans on a regular basis – at the willows with a top 4 side, I could have seen us achieving that.
I remember MK at a meeting telling a Salford fan ‘not to question’ his marketing ability – as of yet I haven’t seen any constructive marketing from him. After not missing game for many years, for the first time ever I found Friday a real struggle.
