The Future is there! : Mon Mar 09, 2009 9:45 pm
Four matches in, two points and three stuffings. There has been much comment about whose fault it is - even Stevo in League Express. Is there any good news? Of course there is!
We have:
- a good number of talented youngsters
- a new ground available during the 2010 season, which will be our
second in Super League
- the best Chairman in the league
- a small but excellent, and hopefully expanding, group of supporters
- some experienced players from NRL & Super League
- a proven coach in Shaun McRea
- a fixer in Steve Simms

We don't have:
- lots of money to strengthan the squad
- lots of money to sack anybody
- a clue at defending
- an acceptable team spirit

What can be done?
- players work harder
- get more enthusiasm
- sort out the defending
- get Steve Simms more involved
- remove the blame culture
- buy out the TV contracts of McRea & Paul
- ensure the experienced players pass on what they know
- instill a "we all in it together mentality"

Everyone should remember it is a marathon not a sprint. Let's get behind the team, stop the arguing and hope that things get better. However, the lead HAS to come from McRea/Simms/Wilkinson and can only be done with the support of ALL the players AND fans.

Good post.

It's always worth remembering that we're never as far away from being a big club as we think.

Individually we've got some terrific players at the club. When the team becomes as strong as it's individual parts it wll be a good team.

Yes I agree, but there is a lot of talent out there in that side.

I would never disagree with that mate because I also think we have great young player potential and some solid senior players, But they really need to sort the internal problems out in order to move forward. This was always going to be a very tough season with some harrowing defeats and that would have been playing as a team! If we continue as a set of cliques or pals groups we are in for an even worse time of it. I don't claim to know what is going on but it is as clear as day that there is something amiss.

I would add - stop making excuses to that list - Over the years we have heard Malc, Simms and several Coaches time after time making excuse after excuse. It's time for the excuses to stop right now and for everyone at the club to get that pathetic 'excuse mentality' out of their heads and admit when we aren't good enough or working hard enough.

It's up to everyone at the club now to respond by giving maximum effort to get things sorted on the pitch because other wise we will become the total laughing stock of RL.

Now is the time for everyone who works for the club to go that extra mile for the cause!! They need to realise that they need to live it and breath it for every second of every day.

You only get out of life what you are prepared to put in to it and it's obvious people/players at the club aren't working hard enough, pulling their weight and earning their money in an honest manor.

Come on Salford!!

Good post Beck, nice to see some positivity and can't really disagree with anything you say.
