I get the feeling that those who've bought tickets will be enjoying the action on the pitch rather than worrying that there's an empty seat or two. I know that's what I'm thinking.

Exactly. After all the talk about empty seats in the build up to the Olympics, do you ever hear it mentioned now? It was quickly forgotten because the entertainment is provided on the field, not in the stand.

It's here, another clash of the titans!

It looks like william eve and smokey are once again set to go head to head in a war of attrition involving attendance stats.

Some other sporting World Cups seen as though we like to measure ourselves against other sports.....

Rugby Union (Average Attendance)
1995 - 34,375
1999 - 42,683
2003 - 38,282
2007 - 47,150
2011 - 30,777

Football
1994 - 68,991
1998 - 43,517
2002 - 42,269
2006 - 52,491
2010 - 49,670

If you went by average attendances alone sometimes, you'd ask serious questions about a Football World Cup that on average has dropped around 22% for the 4 WC preceding 1994 (2 of which held in much stronger footballing nations).

In RU you could highlight how their last WC was the lowest average attended in the last 5 hostings of the event.

Yet neither of those sports International stage and major tournament is hardly struggling.

Comparing average attendances alone isn't the be-all and end-all for the success of a tournament and/or sport, it's just an angle of attack for some on here really.

Ignore the clown with the stats and smokey who would agrue withhis own echo

The tournament sales should ramp up this week and add in the walk up crowd which rl usually get match day should ensure healthy crowds......now if we were to turn the aussies over In the first game that should explode the sales out the ball park for the rest of the tournament

Gp on yer miserable bunch get yer tickets bought and just to upset willy use promo code DANCE :-)

I've emailed the rugby league ticket site tonight asking if any cheaper tickets will be getting released for sale for the opener as only £60+ tickets (in the main) seem to be available and I got an ultra quick reply. The guy who responded was in the process of opening up more areas of the ground online which should be live tonight.

Great to hear and fantastic to get such a quick response.

Sent them a facebook message tonight myself. No response though. U3, 14 and 16 are open in the Cat 7 areas whilst U17 and U22 are open in the Cat 6 areas; only U3 was open earlier. Hope this isn't the extent of more areas becoming available...

A better measure in football would be the capacity as a percentage. The World Cup in 94 was in the US with the huge stadiums.

60k in attendance for 2 games is a 120k attendance over two fixtures.

Sally Bolton said there were 500,000 available tickets.....using your logic, if the Opener, Semis and Final sold out, there's only be 95,000 tickets left for the other 23 games. England v Fiji 25k, Ireland 25k and a Quarter final in Wigan and you've got 45k left for 20 games.
Desperate to score points over young Billy eh Smokey? I'd suggest that given the 2011 Four Nations only counted the 42k at Wembley ONCE in their reported figures, I'd suggest you're on shaky ground here.

BTW, if the draw pans out as per seeding, then the second Semi-final crowd will bare little resemblance to the reported figure for the first.......there'll be more people at London mainline stations catching trains home than will hang around to see Australia hammer Australia b

Yeah that's correct.......until you add some perspective (as in potential audience in host nation(s))

RWC 2011 30,777 (4.2 million)FIFA 2010 49,670 (53 million) RLWC 2013 TBC (150 Million)
RWC 2007 47,150 (62 million) FIFA 2006 52,491 (80 million) RLWC 2008 16,331 (22 Million)
RWC 2003 38,282 (22 million) FIFA 2002 42,269 (180 million) RLWC 2000 8,541 (150 Million)

RLWC 2008 v RWC 2003 would be a fair comparison, as would FIFA 2006 and RWC 2007....

RWC 2011 v RLWC 2008 gives you even more perspective.....5 times the population, half the crowd average?

Manipulating stats is all well and good, but ultimately, it's how many people roll up to this RLWC that's under discussion at present.....the silence from the organisers could mean either they are delighted, or they are not......given RL's track record for announcing when figures of previous tournaments are passed, it is fair to suggest that the latter may be correct.

as flattered as I am by your constant stalking, I'd suggest that no matter how much you whine about me like a little girl and try to attract the attention of the moderators, they aren't going to ban me for being a depressing pessimist

By the way...great news about Huddersfield being almost full.....was it in an official RLIF release or is it based on ticketing website analysis?

I'm so bored with all this talk of empty seats and what the crowds football and RU are at World Cups and how great they are and how garbage RL is. Yadda Yadda fecking yadda.

If you like International RL go to a game or two and enjoy it, if you're not interested shut up and stop ruining it for the people that are actually looking forward to the World Cup.

And for the record, even RU fans said their last World Cup was garbage.

If someone had told me 12 months ago that the WC would have sold as many tickets as it has, has such competitive squads and fixtures and was in the public profile as much as it is i'd have been really happy.
