It is a cracking thread though...I wonder if we will see part deux next year...or even an Aviva Premiership one during the off season?

Got a few more tickets the other day. Due to working every saturday and sunday it's difficult to make the England games but I got ticks to midweek ones nearish to me, so got samoa v nz at wire , ireland v fiji at rochdale, tonga v cook islands at leigh, scotland V usa at salford and wigan quarter final all for £27.50, which is less than I paid for the final  in total my mate bought 26 tickets to various games and paid roughly £140.

looking forward to samoa v NZ and tonga v cook islands in particular. Can see those being 2 feisty matches.

I'm starting to feel quite positive about the tournament as a whole the closer it gets, and maybe due to the cheap tickets might not be as much of a flop as I first thought.

OK, let's take Tonga vs. Italy for example. Bar local marketing, how would anyone expect that to have a massive crowd?

The Tonga team are a very attractive side containing many NRL players and play a typically attractive brand of island rugby. They will feature a haka, which, in itself, is a draw card to many.

The Italian team is made up of many top level NRL players and will be high quality with many feeling they may be a dark horse side. If they knock off Wales at the millenium which is highly likely then all those factors will combine to make this a very attractive fixture. The Aussies are in Ireland that weekend so this game will be a fixture that has practically the whole of the West Yorkshire area as its fan base.

Coupled with the usual cheap tickets available at this world cup, I would think this will be a very attractive fixture. Get members of the teams doing press and media spots in Yorkshire and the North in general and this game should attract an attendance North of 5,000 at the very least.

Bradford, Leeds, Huddersfield, Castleford, Wakefield, Batley, Desbury and Featherstone are all within a very short distance of Halifax. This fixture should appeal to enough of the supporters of those clubs as well as the host Halifax club, roughly 50,000, to attract a very decent attendance at the Shay.

The biggest comparison flaw is the availability of all those ridiculously cheap tickets for the World Cup in 2013 in comparison to previous World Cup tournaments when paying full price was the norm.

Why are you so down on this years WC which seems destined to produce three crowds of over 40,000 and probably two of over 60,000. this has never ever been done before. Added to that an attendance of 20,000 plus at Huddersfield, a sellout of 18,000 at Avignon, probably over 10,000 for the other England group game, excellent attendances for minor games at Workington (2)and Rochdaleand maybe Halifax.

The other French home game in Perpignan will also probably top 8,000 and the Sonny Bill Williams factor has yet to be determined for NZ games.

I cannot understand why you are so depressingly negative when all the signs are overwhelming positive that this will be the best World Cup ever and a vast improvement over 2000.

I was there when there were only four teams in the World Cup, all games played in the North and in antiquated run down dumps of grounds. the last time GB won the cup against Australia in France the attendance was below 10,000 if I remember correctly.

This tournament is destined to be an outstanding success and i hope you come on here with some kind of humble apology in early December. given all the depressing rubbish you are currently spouting.i

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: World Cup Ticket Sales : Mon Oct 14, 2013 11:34 pm
Is there a reason they opened up one end of Cardiff over the other????

I can understand picking the side facing the TV camera's. But when it comes to the ends, why is one open to the top and the other just the lower tier??

Why not 2 tiers at both ends?

The stadium is not symmetrical. The North Stand upper tier has a separate concourse and turnstiles to the rest of the stadium and so will probably be the last area opened.
