I don't desire a comparison. You with your ridiculous amount of attendance posts feel the need to compare. I was pointing out how a straight-up comparison of the averages is flawed due to the number & type of games involved.

For instance, you can't compare quarter final attendances with a tournament which didn't have quarter finals.

A fairer comparison to indicate a trend in attendances would be to compare the semis & the final, then compare the 21 group games in 2013 vs the 12 group games in 1995.

I'm happy to compare the 1995 World Cup average attendance of 17,707 per game with the 2013 World Cup average attendance per game thanks.

I'm happy to compare those figures in spite of the fact that the tickets for the 2013 World Cup have been sold at half-priced peanuts rate for the most part.

I therefore consider such a bet as "generosity in the extreme" on my part.

For instance:

2000 the semis & final was a comined att of 113,200. Spread that over the 15 games as an average is 7,546.

If this year, Wembley & OT come to 120,000 combined, that would 'spread' just 4,286 average per game.

A difference of over 3,000 a game if you take the whole tournament average, despite there being more when the semis & final are isolated.

Like I said, it's flawed.

The biggest comparison flaw is the availability of all those ridiculously cheap tickets for the World Cup in 2013 in comparison to previous World Cup tournaments when paying full price was the norm.

Just to highlight your agenda pushing, The group games for the 95 WC averaged 12701, The Semi-finals and final bumped that up to 17707. If the semi-finals and Final in 2013 had the same attendance, the rest of the games would need to average 15304 for the WC to have the same 17707 average attendance.

That’s an increase of over 20% more attending group games in 2013 than did in 1995 just to keep those averages the same.

There's also four extra knock out Quarter Finals in 2013 on top of the Group games themselves... a luxury not afforded to the 1995 World Cup which would have boosted their average attendance accordingly... and not a heavily discounted half price ticket offer in sight back then either.

Smokey isn't using the quarter finals for 2013 in his workings, so it's irrelevant as far as any comparison goes.

Leaving aside the trip this thread is degenerating in to, I've just been looking in to the games in France and was surprised to read that the France-USA game is at the Toulouse Olympique ground and not the RU one.
