Depends on what you mean by average really.

The Magic Weekend is pretty much bang on average for a round. But our attendances in rounds can vary quite a lot, round 1 in 2013 for example was 73k, round 4 53k and in 2011, week 18 was 48k, week 19 72k. A lot of our attendances are either ‘good’ or ‘bad’ rather than the average as you would expect. (which makes sense when you think about it, if Leeds, St’s, hull, Wigan are all playing away, and London, Salford, Widnes all at home, there is going to be a huge difference in attendances compared to those fixtures being reversed)

Im not saying that the Magic Weekend is a particularly well attended set of fixtures, as I say it is pretty much bang on the average. It is just certain to not be one of our ‘bad’ weeks which we do have a fair few times throughout the season and it will have a positive effect on our total.

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston Churchill)

Smokey is using your having a new ground last year as a reason for an across the board fall in attendances this year. I find that a bit lame.

Well, it's definitely contributing to the fall. We have recorded a consistent loss in attendance of around the 3,000 mark each week so Smokey does have a point. However, we are still recording a bigger turnout at LP than for the corresponding fixtures at KR during our final season there. Given our ludicrously small numbers while lodging at Widnes during 2011, to get the most accurate recording of relative Superleague attendances for Saints a comparison between 2010 and 2013 would probably be best. Both 2011 and 2012 were freakish years for us, but in different directions. And, of course, our drop off this year doesn't explain everyone else's drop offs!

I think there is clear evidence that attendances have dropped from 2012 which makes 2012 look like a bumper year as attendance figures were higher then than in 2011 (in spite of Saints' very poor showing at Widnes). So maybe we should be asking what happened during and/or at the end of 2011 to create such a bumper crop in 2012 (minus the now missing 3,000 at Langtree Park)? Alternatively, what happened during and/or at the end of 2012 to put people off for 2013?

Or is it just that it's too damned cold?

I would say that would depend on the weather. Last year it was (unusually) glorious in Manchester. If it chucking it down this year then you won't get a good turnout as there is nowhere for fans to find shelter.

We aren’t really. The current attendance difference between 2011 and 2013 is only36k and that doesn’t include Wakefield v Leeds game which was postponed or Leeds v Widnes which was rescheduled as per the WCC in 2013.. Those two games will get between 22k and 26k. Making up 10k in cumulative attendance over 2/3rds of the season is barely an issue. We are talking about adding less than a hundred a game

I haven't yet included the 2011 attendance for Leeds V Crusaders (substitution for Widnes) or the 2011 attendance for Wakefield V Leeds in my total attendance calculations to date because those fixtures have yet to be played in 2013 and I don't wish to skew the ongoing cumulative totals. Therefore for 2013 V 2011 comparisons sake, I'll need to include the 14,165 attendance for the Leeds V Crusaders fixture in 2011 along with the 8,763 attendance for the Wakefield V Leeds fixture in 2011... an extra 22,928... once those particular outstanding 2013 fixtures have been completed.

The latest figures are...

SL 2013 - 593,934 from 68 fixtures.
SL 2011 - 632,423 from the same 68 fixtures, apart from replace Widnes with Crusaders.
difference = 38,489
% difference = -6.09%

plus the magic weekend had already happened in 2011 but not yet in 2013 and that’s a traditionally well attended round, probably more so in Manchester in the middle of May than Cardiff in February.

Again... Magic attendance figures are not yet included in my total 2011 figures to date.

According to my current stats, Saints home attendances are currently down this year compared to the last season at Knowsley Rd in 2010 albeit by a small margin of -1.18% and they are up this year compared to the 2009 Knowsley Rd season by an even smaller margin of +0.16%.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions

thats lovely, irrelevant but lovely all the same. You can add in, take out, swap, in whatever way you want. We dont need to count fixtures played in august 2011 now, or compare games played in july 2011 to games played in february 2013. None of your fudging and cherry picking is relevant.

Come the end of the season 14 teams will have played 27 games of RL and we will know how many people went to watch them.

You need to look up the meaning of 'average' and stop confusing yourself.
