Optional Reception of Announcements by Coded Line Electronics
Smokey and Co. don't have to read them if the data upsets them that much and threatening to destroy their SL-is-wonderful belief system
SL is wonderful. Didn’t you see it this weekend? Some great games, Leeds v Bradford was a stormer, Leeds v Les Cats was bruising, Wigan St’s too. If you didn’t watch it you missed out. Ill make a list of the things you missed out on. Maybe even spend a year putting together a spreadsheet to disprove Nigel Wood, I heard he once said you didn’t miss out. But we can prove him wrong can’t we?
Lowest ever attendances posted during the modern SL era are perhaps indicative of the current SL product not quite being as wonderful as is often claimed?
Or should we be overlooking the fact that yesterday's round of low-intensity SL fixtures produced 79 tries, almost 65 points per game and an average winning margin of almost 34 points?

No it doesn’t.
Here is a list of reasons why
1, the numbers aren’t complete
2 you haven’t compared them to the SL era, you have compared them to last year, and in other places the last decade. You haven’t yet compared them to, for instance 1996, the first year of the SL era.
3 Comparing this years SL to any other years SL doesn’t prove anything in comparison to a non-SL era. I.e if a million people a week attended an SL game in 2000, but only 5k a week in 2013, even though this would be a huge fall. It wouldn’t be evidence that more people wanted to watch Non-SL RL, nor evidence of the current SL product been inferior to the pre-SL product.
4. low scores and small winning margins aren’t the definition of good or intense.
5. your sample size is still too small
6. This has been presented to you in list form, as adults do. Stop sticking your head in the sand like a child.
7. Don’t put a childs head in the sand. It is Dangerous

You started out by dismissing the fall in attendances as illusory. Now that the drop is quite obviously real, and significant, you're just flailing to hide your embarrassment at being so completely and absolutely wrong. Keep it up, it's very entertaining.
Whilst you are a laughing matter, the fall in attendances isn't. Let's hope the bluster coming out of the RFL is just that and that behind the scenes they're damn worried. If they're not, then more than ever its time they went.
And as an adult ill list it for you, like adults do.
1 I fully expected a fall between this season and last 2 the difference between this season and others besides last is very small 3 it is exacerbated by the fact we haven’t played the right numbers of games, our average is guaranteed to be higher when those games are added in 4 the sample size is still too small 5 Im more than confident that come the end of the year we will be pretty close if not better than 2011 (which was our 2nd best year) I think better 6 Don’t put a childs head in to the sand. 7 The RFL aren’t responsible for a clubs attendance, you may or may not have noticed but the clubs are independent businesses. 8 Backstreet Boys were the all time best
The numbers were complete enough several weeks ago for you to announce that this season's SL attendances were on course to be the second best ever attendances during the entire history of the game. So what's changed since then? Apart from a more complete picture of the state of play WRT SL attendances and the declarative prematureness of your foolhardy pronouncements?

Correct. I haven't compared them to, for instance 1896 either. Guess what? Neither have your idols at the RFL who haven't in fact done any comparisons this year, or, if they have, they ain't letting on for some reason. I wonder why that is?

WTF are you on about?

That logic seems to work for your hero Nigel Wood who very amusingly claimed only a timely 24 hours before yesterday's embarrassing low-intensity blowout scorelines that SL this season is "compelling... outstanding... the best and most competitive season ever... where the average winning margin in Super League was less than 10 points"... OR... going by your logic, Leeds V Bradford was a stormer because the scoreline and margin wasn't a blowout. Never mind the poor quality, feel the small width, eh?

1. Why? The 'new ground' effect? Really? I would have thought that a new ground was a platform to keep building on. 2. It's not. 3. Guaranteed? 4. When will it be big enough? It's a 'sample'. The results at the end of season won't be a sample, they'll be the results. Samples are extremely useful, especially 10 weeks' worth. 5. That's nice. You're deluded, but happy. 6. You should try stand up comedy. 7. The RFL are responsible for a lot of the framework in which clubs operate, just as they are responsible for a lot of the process by which teams are chosen to be in SL. You can't credit them with good results if you're going to excuse them for bad ones. 8. Really, stand up would suit you. A ventriloquist act with Nigel maybe.

Nothing. You can say were are on course for whatever prediction you want to make.
Are you for real?
Yes, the SL era isnt just last year.
Correct. I haven't compared them to, for instance 1896 either. Guess what? Neither have your idols at the RFL who haven't in fact done any comparisons this year, or, if they have, they ain't letting on for some reason. I wonder why that is?
Because Whilst the RFL are paid to ‘big up’ the game, they aren’t paid to ‘do down’ the game. They leave that job to bored amateurs with little else to occupy them. They do it for free. For some reason that is yet to be declared.
Also, guess what 1896 would be a more valid comparison To validate your claim. At least that would be comparing one season in SL to one season out of it.
WTF are you on about?
Comparing one year in SL to another year in SL proves nothing about SL in comparison to a non-sl era. I.e the movement of crowds with SL doesn’t prove whether or not SL is successful.
See above.
<snipped rest of Smokey's childish ranting>
Yes. Nigel Wood is paid to talk about the game in whichever positive way he can. That’s why he says things like that. Its not an in-depth statistical analysis. Why does the man who is paid to sell the game, selling the game bother you so?
and its not childish it was a list. what adults do
