Worth considering that the recent FA Cup Quarter-Final replay came in at less than 7,000 crowd. This was the lowest attendance at this stage of the competition since 1970. Any change in attendances currently has to be considered in light of the economic situation. I think even the RU Cup had low attendances although I'd expect their sport to be more resistant to economic woes due to the wealth of their support base.
Nothing whatsoever to do with the economic situation. Please dont try and justify anything using Blackburn Rovers attendance figures! I could write for pages and pages why but I wont.
Putting it simply, the fans of that club have had the soul ripped out of what was once a very proud, family club. It has become a national laughing stock and despite fans wanting the best for the club, they were made out to be villains in the whole saga. It has taken some areas of the media a year to realise that it was never the fans fault what happened to their club, but poor ownership and marginalisation of the fans!
The crowds at that club have gone down from 25k to 12k in 18 months, they will only be going one way if things continue the same way as many fans feel their club has been lost!
Add together the fact that the original tie was played on the Sunday, tickets for the replay went on sale for the replay on Monday and the replay was on the Wednesday! 2 full days to sell tickets for the game!
As I say, using Blackburn Rovers to support any arguments at the moment is pointless as it is a extremely special case! I dont blame people on the outside just looking and drawing conclusions from it, but there very deep problems that wont be solved until the whole culture of the club is reversed.
