There is nothing wrong with pointing out the attendances. It's obvious that crowds are down and it should be discussed.

I do however, dislike apparent fans taking so much pleasure out of it. Take a quick look at William Eve's posts and he doesn't post anything except things about poor crowds. We had a great weekend of fixtures, but he doesn't feel the need to comment on the games. He does however, take an incredible amount of time posting about the crowd figures at these games.

Let's not forget, he started this thread after round 1 and described it as 'attendances tumbling,' Whether attendances have been low since is irrelevant, it was a ridiculous comparison to make and to describe in that way.

The test for me is whether he would continue doing it if crowds improved back to normal levels and it's pretty clear that he wouldn't. We have an apparent fan of RL coming on to a RL board to consistently and constantly talk the game down.

That for me is just trolling but what is worse is that he gets heard above everybody else. We had some cracking games in the last 2 days, a draw, a 1 point victory, a Widnes win at Wire yet what dominates the thread, crowds, crowds and more crowds. All because of somebody with a clear dislike of RL.

During the current franchised, 14 club, top 8 play-off system SL era... the total attendances in SL to date remain the lowest we have ever witnessed. Neither the replacement of the poorly-supported Crusaders with the better-supported Widnes or the establishment of 2 new stadia has prevented the 2013 SL attendances from being the worst on record so far.

SL Rounds 1 to 9 total attendances comparison (2009 to 2013)
SL 2013 - 536,052 from 61 fixtures.
SL 2012 - 602,930 from the same 61 fixtures.
SL 2011 - 568,172 from the same 61 fixtures, except replace Widnes with Crusaders.
SL 2010 - 554,880 from the same 61 fixtures, except replace Widnes with Crusaders.
SL 2009 - 557,683 from the same 61 fixtures, except replace Widnes with Crusaders.

SL 2013 % decrease in attendances
V SL 2012 = -11.09%
V SL 2011 = -5.65%
V SL 2010 = -3.39%
V SL 2009 = -3.88%

Quite. There is nothing wrong with pointing out the attendances, and yes... the crowds are down this year and by a not insignificant margin... I'm pleased we're in agreement on that. So why the name calling earlier?

In what respect was it a ridiculous comparison to make and describe in that way? Were you of a similar opinion with regards to the attendance comparisons made and announced by the RFL last season?

I've already answered that question earlier. I wouldn't need to. The RFL would be reporting the attendance figures instead, would they not? Again, how is taking an interest in attendance figures and reporting them tantamount to talking the game down?

Worth considering that the recent FA Cup Quarter-Final replay came in at less than 7,000 crowd. This was the lowest attendance at this stage of the competition since 1970. Any change in attendances currently has to be considered in light of the economic situation. I think even the RU Cup had low attendances although I'd expect their sport to be more resistant to economic woes due to the wealth of their support base.

Do you believe comparing attendances at cup games (which aren't included as part of the season ticket package in those other sports) with mainly season-ticketed regular round SL attendances is a valid comparison?

Perhaps you ought to be comparing those cup game attendances in other sports with attendances in the CC or SL play-off fixtures instead? In other words, those fixtures which aren't included as part of the season ticket package in RL? Where you actually have to pay for an individual entry ticket on the day at the turnstiles?

And how long has this economic situation been with us? Did it begin in 2013, hence why SL regular season attendances in 2013 are over 11% down on last year? You don't believe there are other reasons for the decline in SL attendances this season then?
