Not talk king about kids getting good deals, all clubs give good deals to players they really want, but Warrington paid silly money for Morgan smith to snatch him from Leeds, and he has now been released, ps ps trout does look a good un and will probably be first team this year and possibly regular in 2-3 years.

Phrases like “silly money” & “snatch” are very subjective & do little for the argument. Are you saying that anytime Leeds offer a better deal than another club that they’ve snatched a player or paid silly money as it’s more than another club have offered?
The truth is there’s no perfect answer/solution. Young lads developing at different rates & moving from club to club is nothing new & there are fewer kids sticking to their service area & there’s nothing wrong with that in reality. We all want to see these talented kids make it.

For what it’s worth, I’d take academies away from clubs & corral the best coaches/set ups into regional academies & implement some sort of draft system.

Good point well made, sure we are a club that spends and took a gamble on Smith (along with others) good for the board I say and good luck to the lad himself he's not been the worst performer in the P&B (different I know from ROI) but behind Clark and now Walker at 9/interchange 9 it's obviously not right for either party.

Hopefully Morgan Smith agent Craig has learned a lesson with what happened to him and McLennand it is not always about the money its about doing the right thing for the player.

Morgan has a 1 year contract with a team likely to be at the bottom end of the league. It's will be a tough (playing) year, equally a make or break year for him. He should get plenty of game time and as such plenty of opportunity to show his skills at that level. It's up to him now.

that would be the best solution but how would then draft out the lads, on super league positions from the bottom to the top ?

Don’t actually have a problem with clubs doing it, it’s just that ThePrinter wanted examples and I provided them.

No you didn’t you just came out with “my cousin told me” gossip. Funny how it’s just Wakefield fans who always have a Leeds chip on their shoulder pretending they know what Leeds offer young lads when Leeds fans can actually tell you the truth with how Hetherington deals with youth.

From what I hear Leeds have a wage structure that they very rarely go outside of when it comes to offering there younger player deals, I have heard JP talk about this, apparently it was one of the main things he tried to implement into the structures at Hull KR.

They have a good record of retention when it comes to there better younger players and I can't think of many examples of were players have left and gone on to bigger and better things. I don't think money is the main thing at Leeds, they have great facilities, track record of success in recent history including bringing academy products into the first team successfully as a young player you would probably be very silly to leave Leeds for a few extra quid.

That’s what I’d go with. I appreciate it isn’t as simple as what I’m suggesting & there are lots of variables to consider, but surely it would prevent/tackle a lot of the issues the game currently faces with engagement & retention of young players.
Unfortunately I don’t see clubs giving up the control/power they have, even if it is for the good of the game.
