More jobs for the boys at Leeds as Peacock returns to work in the commercial department. Expect McGuire back in some role in 2020 and a gig for JJB when he retires.

Nothing wrong at all with looking after former players. Football, rugby and NFL clubs have been doing it for years.

Agreed nothing wrong with looking after former players and Leeds have done a great job in the past at making sure players have something else post playing. Doesn’t mean you just give them all a job at the club though. Whilst you want to look after you want to hire the best people for jobs and has Peacock some experience in commercial that made him the best choice? Just because someone was a good player doesn’t mean they’ll good in an off field role, let’s be honest he didn’t do well at Hull KR.

No one was really sure what his role was at HKR. Other than a brave attempt to play again last few game before MPG. Big wage for little return. Great player but more interested in his media work etc. Ultimately his decision not to play Kelly and was as much good to us as the bust floodlights.

Having met the guy a couple of times post retirement I’m disappointed to say he’s gotten quite an ego from the praise he and Sinfield (and he’s gotten a bit similar) got for the trophy success in the McDermott years and have believed the myth that it was all down to them coaching the team. Peacock’s spell at KR and Sinfield’s dire efforts late last year perfectly showed that lie up.

it gave sinfield a chance to look at players close up. the huge turnover is a result of him weeding out players who weren't suitable.
I agree with peacock having met him a few months back

Well looking at the people jobs have been given to they have had relevant experience of working before going back to Leeds too. It is not as if they dropped out of playing and straight into it. They have gone away learned some skills in a couple of roles and then Gary has invited them back once they have got to grips with the administration side of the game. Peacock may not be a commercial genius, but what he will do is be targeting businesses and businessmen who will be Leeds fans. Who better than the cornerstone of a forward pack during the clubs most successful spell to feed potential sponsors what it is like to be involved with Leeds. No qualified commercial graduate will have the passion and drive for the club Peacock will have, nor are they ever likely to get it, it will be a paid job to them

Fair point, but I think the issue Printer is getting at to grow the game we should be targeting companies who are NOT fans of the game. We are very insular as a sport and don't seem to explore outside possibilities. Ultimately would a person with Jamie Peacocks experience/skills have got the job if he wasn't Jamie Peacock?

Like who? The sad fact is that blue chip companies don’t care about us. Only this week the RFU was valued at £1billion. Wheras we have to force teams to pay in the cup competition.

But that’s the problem, Peacock will appeal to people who are ALREADY Leeds fans, that’s not a hard sell to attract them, will he be able to get ones that aren’t already fans? Dismissing any potential non ex-player as just being “a paid job” is also a poor argument as I think every club can point to members of staff who have never been players who have given great and passionate service to their roles.

Sinfield and Peacock did go away and do other roles....but for how long? Sinfield was at England for how long, a year? Peacock’s run and influence at HKR is very questionable. Neither showed in that time they were ready yet for a club that is the biggest in the competition.
