I was called up yesterday and asked if I wanted to purchase a hospitality package for £49 for the opening ceremony. I was also sent details of packages for the other games I'm attending. Great to see the RFL being proactive in this.

I hoped you said yes to that!! will probably end up spending more than that on snacks and beer.

I wonder what the reasons are that at Huddersfield ticket sales are going really well with new blocks being opened all the time to the point now the whole stadium is open but in Hull for pretty much the same game England v Ire/Fiji ticket sales a lot slower.
Is it to do with pricing? Most expensive ticket at Hudds is £20 where at the KC it is £40 for the same view. Really doesn't make sense. Or is it the geographical locality where at Hudds it is more accessible to have people come from different areas and easier to get to for more people?

Both i think.

I will be going to the Fiji game at the KC, but hanging on to see if they do any offers nearer the time. Surprised at the low ticket sales, as the Fiji game will be a lot tougher than the Ireland one!

Both of those things. As it happens i ended up getting tickets for both. But whereas Huddersfield was a no-brainer, i had a brief second thought about Hull, almost entirely for those 2 reasons.

I don't think you will get better than half price tickets with the offers at the moment. I might be wrong of course. I agree Fiji should be a hard game and a lot harder than the Irish game. Another reason might be the city of Hull have 3 games to Huddersfields one so spreads the fan base out a bit more? Just shocked me as usually Hull does really well for fans turning up for international games.

Does anyone know how venues are actually allocated for WC matches? I was thinking about the Tour de France where towns have to bid and it's a huge deal if they are chosen for a stage start or finish. Perhaps in future venues should have to put in a bid and part of that is that they commit to publicising the match and promoting ticket sales. Places like Bristol seem to be taking it seriously whilst heartland towns like St Helens don't (according to posters on here,).

I'm pretty sure cities had to bid to hold events. hull ran a campaign called "Twice the passion" I think

Albeit Bristol have so far only sold ~1500 tickets*, despite laudable marketing efforts, whereas I imagine St Helens can sell at least 3 times that with no marketing effort at all.

(* as stated on their twitter feed).

Mmmmh - 4500, that's good. As I said, places like Bristol seem to be making an effort. It should be a privilege to host the RLWC not something that towns take for granted and make no effort at all.

One reason might be that more of the Lancashire based fans are likely to attend the Hudds game, seeing as there will be no group games over this way? Hull is a bit far to travel for an England group game I think, so people over here might just go to the Hudds game.
