That isn't the point of this thread though. The comparison has been with the same fixtures last season. While there are bound to be mitigating factors in all the rounds - the weather, the time of year, what have you - Saints' crowds are consistently down this season and we aren't alone (but we probably have witnessed the biggest fall in numbers). What kind of crowd the game would have attracted at KR was irrelevant. All the figures are up on our leaving gate from KR.
Well it is the point of the thread actually......trying to create a panic with the way the numbers are presented. I fully expect Saints numbers to be down this year, last year was the new stadium effect, it was always going to jump up in 2012. The figures they've gotten when compared to how many they usually got at Knowsley Road do not equal 'worrying' and that is the buzz word on this thread. So it's exactly the point, but some prefer to present it as ''drop from the 2012 game'' and say this is bad, when if adding context it's actually the 2nd best attended Saints/Wakey clash in SL.......very much NOT worrying.
But there's the paradox. You're right, in that no, I can't really see a team winning it from 7th or 8th. Nor, in my view, do fans of the clubs challenging for those places. Which is why they're not flocking to watch their teams trying to scrape that 8th place. They don't think it means anything other than one, maybe two, more games. The only teams that could ever win from fifth are the "big" clubs who've had a poor run somewhere. No smaller club, scraping a lower place, will ever win it.
So how would decreasing the playoffs to 5 teams help that? It MIGHT add to the attendance when the 'big boys' play each other, but from the ones we've had so far this season those attendances have remained ok anyway. So really I can't see this years figures having being much different had we entered the season under TOP 5 system.
Games between the likes of Leeds, Wigan, Saints, Wire might add on a few extra if it's TOP 5 but then look at William's club-by-club figures on Page 52, the 3 teams showing an increase are Wakey, HKR and Widnes, teams who under a TOP 5 system most likely wouldn't get close to reaching so surely you would just be seeing drops at those clubs to even the overall attendance figures out???

Then you will be able to gloat, but until then, the figures speak for themselves
They dont, thats the point some people done understand.
Mr Eve does though That’s why he is doing it, those agreeing with him don’t seem to grasp it though.
Im just surprised that Nigel Wood saying good attendances are good and something we should celebrate annoyed him so much he has spent a year saving this up.

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

But they do , if you want to wait till the end of the season before commenting on them , then ignore the thread , " Simples "
Obviously Billy takes great pleasure in publishing these figures and, likewise, Smokey seems to enjoy knocking them back. I'm not in either camp although I do have a leaning towards Smokey's point of view. I did take the opportunity of asking Billy what we, as supporters, ought to be doing about it. Strangely enough, he has chosen not to reply.
was watching an nfl doco. on one of their teams and they used the term bomb to describe those long high passes from quaterback to running back and i think gibson took that idea, realized you cant throw the ball forward in RL and adapted it to a "bomb" kick we have

We all know someone we used to see at RL games but who has stopped going......if you're from the heartlands, you also probably still see these people from time to time in and around your town. Why not strike upa conversation with them and find out why they stopped coming and invite them to come along with you to the next game? Whilst you're at it, pester your mates who are married to the round ball to come along once their wendyfest is over.....their jingoistic fervour will assuredly see them snap up tickets for RLWC 2013. Any mates who are now Bird/kiddie up, get them to bring their nippers to games (on the pretext of giving 'er indoors a break)....
In my 8 years in London as a Broncos fan, I must have brought over 100 newbies to games....to a man, woman and child, they all enjoyed themselves...one even began driving us up to away games. RL uses to be about community.......the clubs need to mobilise their fans and try to recapture that.........and cut out this League of Extraordinary Bullshit malarky that is delivering 2/10ths of SFA!

I keep telling them this at Leyth , do they listen , do they foook
These are the club averages so far this year. Im sure Jeff will be happy to work out the side by side compared to last years in the corresponding fixtures. 1 thing that I have noticed though is the gap between Hull in 5th and Bradford in 6th. Im sure in previous years it hasnt been that much.

Just because he provides information about falling crowds, it doesn't obligate him to provide a solution.
( in any event, he's offered several reasons, right or wrong, why he thinks its happening, which are therefore implict suggestions for improvement )
It's ridiculous. I'm sure you are critical of say, this prime minister, or the last one, or whatever. But could you really do better? Really? Doesn't mean you're not allowed to comment on the deficit.
