How can Merrin's status in SL be as high as Fifita and Pauli when he hasn't even played a game yet?

Wow - that's rattled your cage.

I am interested in your examples of players who have bombed at other clubs but have been a massive success at Leeds?

Donaldson has been a very average SL player his whole career - a representation of his skill set. If the rumours are correct Leeds have been trying to offload a number of very average SL players so why would they want to increase the number of very average SL players in the squad?

Having players of this nature in your squad restricts the opportunities for younger players that have come through the junior development system. It would be a real shame if the likes of Cameron Smith didn't get the opportunity because the risk of playing him was greater than playing Donaldson.

In respect of the Aussies I would suggest Merrin's status is as high as anyone in SL - certainly he has done more in the game than the likes of David Fifita, Pauli Pauli etc.

Why would anyone dispte that. However its not relevent is it - we are talking now and in the future not the past. Its a huge assumption that you'll get the same player - you might but you might not.

He is an Australian international. Fifita and Paul Paul aren’t. That’s why his status is far higher

Merrin is only known in Aus because he punched above his weight with that fit surfing chick he had.
Other than that he's a middle of the road typical Aussie forward who trundles the ball up once in the first 4 drives without mistake and then makes 25- 30 tackles a game in defence.
He won't do much over here, like a lot of the slow Aussie forwards. Our game is too fast and off the cuff for them

A few posters determined to make themselves look silly just because they don’t like Leeds and that they’re flexing their muscles in the transfer market once again after several years off.

No it’s because most of us are now grown up enough not to believe the hype. SL history is full of theses reputation players who fail to deliver, it’s a huge assumption that this guy will. Why do people keep falling for it.

As for being anti Leeds - seriously - we can all name big reputation Aussies who have failed at our own club. Most recently for us was Anthony Tupou who actually had a fat better rep than Merrin.

The one that makes me laugh most of all is the SOO tag as if that’s a guarantee of success. Remember Adrian Brunker? No thought no, look him up.

What will matter at Leeds is whether Furner will hack it and in that regard I feel you are on far more of a winner but again not a certainty.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

SL is allso full of players from the NRL that have shown the gulf in quality between the two competitions. If you get a really top player e.g. Jamie Lyon, Danny Buderus, Matt Gidley they add a lot to SL and they are not over-hyped. Its when you get very average NRL players that it becomes a waste of money. Time will tell but the chance of Merrin being the former is greater than hm being the latter if is form of last year is anything to go by.

Tupou is hardly a reasonable comparison - he's spent the previous 4 years in the NRL pretty much on the physio table - he played a fair few games in his last NRL season, but he came here a good 6 or 7 years past his prime. Merrin is a recent Aus international and was still in Origin contention the last couple of seasons.

There are stacks of over hyped NRL players that haven't made the SL grade, some being Aussie internationals. Some of the lesser players have come over and succeeded such as Dorn (look at his try scoring record in SL)- That list is endless

I find that Aussie Props and second rowers tend to be slow, structured, decent in defence etc. Our game is faster, goes wider earlier than the NRL where second rowers run out wide, ..... It takes them a while to adapt.

LeeeBron me owd, I couldn't give a toss how high his"status" is in Australia, he's in England now and to date he's proved nothing, whereas Fifita and to a lesser extent Pauli has, come back at the end of the season and tell me how high his status has risen, that's assuming he hasn't put his notice in and gone back home.

Btw why should an alleged Saints fan be interested in Leeds players, unless it's to have another tiresome dig at anything Wakefield.
