Are you able to provide any evidence of real sales numbers in order to justify that statement of yours?

And what were the expectations that have been beaten?

I have been umming and arring with regards to Cardiff now, mainly due to the fact that hotels are too expensive and I don't particularly fancy the round trip in a day.

However as the excitement builds I have realised I can't make the same mistake as I did with the Wembley game in 2011, especially after seeing the preview pictures for it. My plan is to get it sorted after the Grand Final, I am sure that there are many others doing the same.

The advertising seems to be stepping up a gear, loads of posters in Warrington and I noticed in Wigan the other day that a lot of the buses were carrying advertisments. My season ticket renewal form came through on Friday with a fixtures list and a piece about seeing Asotasi, which will definitely help sales.

All in all we look set for a great competition! It really does baffle me that the hardest people to sell to are our own fans. England soccer have no chance yet next year there will be St Georges flags everywhere and people will go WC crazy. A bit of that optimism would make a welcome change please.

If we top 50k for the opener the atmosphere will be good and the organisers can be praised IMO.

Anything extra is a huge bonus.

Great to hear you'll be attending and I hope you are right about many others doing the same. Can I suggest you look at Cardiff Airport, Llantrisant, Cwrbran, Newport, Brigdend, Caerphilly, Radar, Penarth, Barry etc for places to stay rather than Cardiff City itself? Having lived in the area for two years, all these areas are 20-25mins on the train from Cardiff but much cheaper. My mates and I are staying at the airport and have paid less than £50 for a doubel room. Plenty of places available if you search a bit wider. Good luck!

Definitely. The thing is that people forget, is that over traditional RL fans go to a lot of games thoughout the course of the year, then will probably want to go to a few World Cup games too. Contrast that to Union, where they are able to pack out Twickenham because for the vast majority of people there it is the one game that they will go to. As such they plan the day months in advance and jump to buy tickets the day they come out.

On Wednesday I ordered our Final tickets, after having said we would sort it for months. We never got round to it because we are shelling out for games every week so kept putting it off. Contrast that with the annual trip to the races, which I book as soon as Chester email me about dates for next year.

It is cheap, but on the flip side, it makes it an affordable day out for a family to attend. That's something the sport can be proud of, especially with how tight things are for some people at the moment.

I know some of the journos were having a whinge on Twitter about ticket prices being too cheap last week, which is fine when you never pay, but the issue is not big games being cheap, but clubs under valuing the prices of their season tickets.

Oh I completely understand the logic behind the cheap tickets. It was just an observation.

Re: World Cup Ticket Sales : Mon Sep 30, 2013 9:23 am
I'm a massive supporter of the World Cup and international rugby league, but let's not start smoking the strong stuff as far as attendances are concerned - and especially at Cardiff.

History shows that a crowd of 40,000 for a rugby league game in Cardiff would be an incredible result - we didn't get anywhere near that for half a dozen club games at the Millennium Stadium, and the club game is our strength! The good news is that a crowd of 40-50k looks feasible.

As soon as people start assuming that 25k or 35k extra fans are suddenly going to buy tickets over the next three or so weeks, we will be setting ourselves up for massive disappointment. Let's take a historical view, forget about the overall capacity of the ground and encourage everyone we know to get down there and enjoy what will be a fabulous event.
