This is not for one minute suggesting that Merrin will follow suit however if you take a look a players in the last few years that have joined Super League teams that would have definitely got first team action in the NRL (Based on talent) its quite astonishingly one sided in terms of being deemed a success or failure:
Tyrone Roberts - Fail Kevin Locke - Fail Ben Barba - Fail (Played well for 16 rounds, went off the boil when he could not be bothered and then decided to leave half way through his contract) David Mead - Fail (Okay he is okay, but probably isnt even the best winger at Catalan) Todd Carney - Fail
Can anyone think of any successes in the last 3 or 4 years? I am not talking about the usual overseas players that come over that are in and out of NRL first teams/deemed as squad players.

David Mead has not failed. That is why he is being retained by the Challenge Cup winners, Catalans Dragons.
This past week has almost felt like an awakening of the Super League. It has gone from a competition which is merely feeding talent to the NRL, to a league which will have an increasing number of overseas stars lighting it up in 2019.
Leeds Rhinos have been the biggest players in this minor shift towards top-name talent. The West Yorkshire outfit, who are aiming to get back in the elite after dropping down to the Qualifiers for the second time in three years, now have two marquee players for next year in Konrad Hurrell and Trent Merrin.
Add this to Huddersfield Giants signing Akulia Uate, Blake Austin and Jason Clark joining Warrington Wolves, and St Helens landing Lachlan Coote, Kevin Naiqama and Joseph Paulo, and there are bags of star names new to Super League in 2019.
Hull KR have also jumped in the mix by landing seasoned NRL centre Kane Linnett. Linnett has been a regular for North Queensland Cowboys during the last six years.
The majority of the league are improving their starting side. Leeds, Warrington, Salford Red Devils, Rovers and St Helens have all made a splash in the recruitment market.
In light of the aforementioned big names getting ready to jettison off to these shores, it certainly gives the impression that Hull are falling behind, The Black and Whites dropped off tremendously at the back end of last year by losing eleven straight matches .
Appears that the Hull FC owner isn't going to revamp the squad as he promised .

Quite surprised HDM running a negative FC story? Been a glorified fanzine since Smailes took over. Wouldn't be surprised if they pull a marquee signing out of the hat to appease the growing discontent in the rabble.
All those players above re show pony flash Harrys most of them ended up in Super league after essentially being driven out of NRL due to misbehaver other issues, merrin is a hard working but dynamic forward with a great work effic and is coming here at his own freewill, not because he cannot get a gig in NRL. He may or may not fail, but either way the stong odds favour him being a succes, he probably won't score 20 trys and 20 assists or win MOS, gbut he has not been brought to leeds to do that. If he stiffens up our defense and lead our pack, job done.
