That's complete nonsense. Crowd trouble at RL games was not remotely on a par with what happened in football in the 1970s or 80s. How many RL fans died in this violence? How many arrests were there? How many matches were attended by thousands of policemen? How many grounds introduced segregation and steel fences?
I've certainly seen plenty of nasty stuff inside and outside RL grounds, the Widnes/Warrington Premiership semi in 1988 being the most large-scale incident, but it was not even 1% of what was happening in football at the same time.
