I agree with your first point. Sponsors are sponsors and are key to any Club regardless of who they are.
Salford managed to get Mitsubishi to be their main sponsor this coming season. That's Mitsubishi UK and not a franchise garage and Salford hardly had the seasons to end all seasons last year. Bigger sponsors are out there for the game but I think a lot depends on who you have working behind the scenes to get them in. I don't think Wakefield is a much harder sell than Salford with the exception of geography and access to a larger population.
