And Cas figures in 2007 massively outperformed those Keighley figures. Are we supposed to pretend that the structure in 2007 was fundamentally better than that in 2001 because one club, got one season of good attendances?
Didn’t Keighley get relegated, under a P+R system at the end of the 2001 season as well? Having gone into administration 2 times in the previous 5 years whilst chasing promotion. And weren’t Keighley getting sub 400 crowds back in the 80’s early 90’s
the fact cas did even better in 2007 only serves to highlight the current problem with todays crowds. I don't know why you've suddenly moved on to P+R, i made no mention of it whatsoever. Does the fact Keighley were getting sub 400 crowds back in the 80's/90's, to crowds as high as 3727 in 2001 and now in the 800's not make you wonder what's going wrong in semi-pro rugby?

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it!
Are attendances in SL up or down on last year? From the figures I have seen regarding 2013, the comp is currently averaging 9,082, down from 10,151 in 2012 and 9,615 in 2011.
As regards like for like games...... pretty pointless doing this until the 27 rounds are up......as for TV figures, unless you are going to take into account a multiple number of circumsatances like weather, other events, other channel scheduling etc, then again, it's pretty pointless comparing anything until the season is over.
Personally, I think once the weather gets better and United have tied up the title, attendances will creep back up......and having weekends of upsets like last week will only add to the lure of attending a SL game....
There isnt really any point comparing 2011 to 2013 at this point because 2011 had the Magic Weekend as round 1, and there is still a game to be played in round 4 this year. So in answer to your question, regardless of anything, we couldnt possibly know until the 17th of July when round 4 is completed .

You did make mention of it. You compared it to the 'post-franchising' era. I mentioned it as a possible reason why Keighley's attendance were down, they have been relegated twice in that time, and gone bust again. That might effect their attendances.

so i did, was looking at the initial post. They have and that will have had some effect, but it's not just keighley who are struggling. fans ARE disappearing and it's worrying, particularly with the new 'twinning' rules as the more fans stop watching*, the more championship chairmen are going to have to lower budgets and cut costs meaning more DR/loan/'year long signing but still train with the former club' players from superleague youth teams which in turn will drive more away from the game, and before you know it we're the valvoline cup by another name.
*i should point out that this isn't necessarily the reason for fans turning away, but fans turning away will cause this
I genuinely feel sorry for the fans of whichever club gets the boot in the next round of licencing when they have to come down and watch their crowds evaporate around them, i wouldn't wish it upon anyone

I initially took you on your word on that, but after a bit of digging here's the first half of keighleys 93/94 season
Barrow A 2341 London H 3260 Rochdale A 2001 Dewsbury H 3120 Hunslet A 1898 Doncaster A 2359 Whitehaven H 3157 Swinton H 3092 Nottingham(RT) H 2283 Carlilse A 1230 Halifax(RT) A 7347 Batley A 1789 Highfield H 2836 Workington H 3728

We are talking pre Cougar-mania years, so before 91.
Does anybody have the stats for the 1950's
Dont be bloody stupid , the ' argument ' as such is the last few years
The bottom line is that the Championship attendance figures are poor , and getting poorer , now if we want to see a sport with 1 professional tier and essentially amatuer below that , then carry on devaluing the ' Vibrant , worth winning in its own right ' competition Mr Wood , and I agree with Gutterfax , the clubs themselves are more culpable than the RFL in this , however they need leadership and help , neither of which is forthcoming from Red Hall
no it wasnt you silly ar5e. The figure he started with was more than a decade old.
Having a game which has 1 professional tier and is essentially amateur below that is a marked improvement on what we had previously, which was a game with 1 semi-pro tier and essentially amateur below that.
