Trent Merrin departs Leeds.
I know crap happens but imo that's a big loss for Leeds, even with Prior coming in. As I said when Merrin arrived, you don't get big eye catching plays, tackle busts galore etc but what you do get is a consistently high performer that knows his job inside and out and in time will lift the standards of everyone. Obviously, after only a year that isn't gonna happen now but I thought he'd have a been a bit better in his 2nd year.
Tbh on Prior I'm not sure what to think, even if he'd have signed for us, he's obviously a good player but is the right kind of player. I'd be really undecided about what we'd get out of him and where he'd fit bin, especially as he's 33 next season as well , A bit of a worry is for the fans that don't watch NRL, what do they expect, because if you look up his Wikipedia he looks like a great SL signing from the NRL, but for me even with his success on the field etc, he's a good steady away consistant forward. Hopefully Leeds fans know what they're gonna get from the bloke. Again he'll do all the little things right and play to a good standard and get decent meters, good tackler , plus adds a load of experience that Leeds have just lost. He's the kind of player every team needs, he does a lot of the unseen things and a grafter,. If i had to compare him to a player it'd be Arona from us, which isn't a bad rap at all, considering he's the glue that holds our pack together and one of the most underrated players ini SL imo. Like I said though it all depends on what fans expect from Prior, especially now Merrins left.
Prior's stats for last year werem he averaged 27 tackles and 88 meters a game, 10 offloads & 17 tackle breaks.Total 2208 meters 671 tackles from 25 games
Trinity have got 2 Non fed places left and as we've found out a few times, you can hold out and really drop onto some very good players like we did with Fifita & Tanginoa once the season starts.
