Being a club HB is totally different to being an international - ie it’s far easier. You have to be something special to boss a set of strangers with big egos around a pitch - I’ve seen nothing to suggest Widdop can do that. Burrows and McGuires general crappyness at international level says it all.

However in the more stand alone FB position he looks ok, if you understood the game you’d see that.

He’s not the best HB in the NRL imo but that’s not the point. He’s not world class unless we’ve won a World Cup recently and I haven’t noticed

So to be world class you have to have won a World Cup do you? Glad you don’t rate RTS or Kalyn Ponga then

Interesting thread. As far as half backs go I’ve no issue with Hastings making himself available for England. To be honest I’m not really sure how good he is or isn’t as all I’ve seen him play is a handful of games in the qualifiers. Better to judge him at the end of next season whether that be with Salford or Wigan.

Trueman particularly but Richardson too look good prospects and have both had good seasons but imo it’s way too early for both to be looking at international honours yet. Get them in for the knights and a year or two more at club level and see where they are. It’s common for young players to look really good in a breakthrough year and then tail off when opposition work them out.

To pick up on a point about Tom Johnston, I’ve not seen too many say he shouldn’t be considered for England, he is a top player however there are a lot of good wingers about at the moment and in past matches it’s hard to argue against McGilvray & Hall who are now proven performers at international level.

If England want to put up a fight and compete then from what I’ve seen of Jackson Hastings he is a must to play,,, had he been in England a month or two earlier Salford wouldn’t have finished in the bottom 4,,, and I reckon he would have been a cert for man of steel,,, not seen anyone make a impression like this guy has,,,, he has got everything,, I will go as fast as to say that if you put him in any of the top four teams they win everything,,, he is that good,,, a joy to watch,,

Well yes. You're getting "world class" and "international class" mixed up.

Otherwise you could say Jordan Henderson is world class same as Paul Pogba.
