The Heritage Round is not just about flogging shirts (I've always found the NRL to be less commerically savvy than many of our clubs. For example they don't even have squad numbers with players names on their shirts). Its an opportunity for the whole game to celebrate its past in one weekend, focussed on historic fixtures (Wigan v Widnes for example based on their 80s and 90s rivalry) played in one off shirts, often with former player parades and presentations. As a Broncos fan, I would love to see us play Wigan at Craven Cottage as part of such a round.
Its a great concept, as in the Women in League round, but they need some basics in place to work
long term commitment from the whole League
a regular slot in the programme
plenty of notice to prepare!
Unfortunately these are not attributes readily associated with Super League. Remember the recent round supporting mental health? Players wore teeshirts in the warm up and it was announced the week before! Super League On the Road - one year!
