For example, the Cas v Saints play off game a few years ago was one of the most dramatic and compelling games of recent years.
NOBODY was looking at the lack of seating or the quality of the facilities.

RL scored a HUGE own goal by setting it's mythical 10,000 attendance figure, something which only 4/5 clubs can achieve.
It's absolutely right to try and push up standards on/off the field but, watching a decent game in a poor ground, beats watching a poor game in a half (or worse) empty ground all day long.

Strangely, Toronto's ground with it's psychedelic multisport pitch markings, was as bad as it gets but, "we" were pretty keen to get them into the comp.

It's utter nonsense to suggest that clubs like Trinity hold back the TV deal.
Do you really think that if they were playing out of a brand new 12,000 seater stadium, there would be, even one more penny on the TV deal

Of course everything looks better when the games are played to "sell out" crowds, although this seems very unlikely in the foreseeable future, for any club and there is no doubt that Trinity and others, need to make progress with their ground, least of all to open up additional revenue streams for themselves but, we still get back to the game of RL and using the Cas / Huddersfield analogy again, the game looks and sounds better from The Jungle than it ever has at Huddersfield but, you surely know this but, couldn't help having a pop at Trinity , again. It's like you think that they stole something which was yours ??

If it’s about the product Hudds/Wakey have featured in the closest three games so far all decided by one point. One in overtime.

So would SKY prefer these games or the 40/50 point blow out some of the others have been???

You can wax on about Saints until you meet your maker but what neutral wants to watch big points blow outs??

The appeal of any sport to TV is a close high skilled, exciting, hard fought game in doubt until the final minutes, people don’t switch that game off.

Doesn’t matter whether it’s at Wheldon Road, Belle Vue, John Smiths, DW or Craven Park.

The product on the field is what puts ‘bums in front of the telly’ not where it’s been played

The scores might be close, but the product on the field is mediocre, because it's being held back by a lack of investment in youth development systems by some clubs and also a restrictive salary cap, which, bizarrely, many Yorkshire clubs were only recently proposing to cut even further.

Not sure here. If we want to expand "youth development" we need more kids playing the game, however numbers have gone down big style, and that is the case for Soccer as well?

If we increase the cap that would simply put the best players in the top six clubs and the bottom six would be easybeats??

Your missing the point. Rather than the geographical area, the name of the motorway, the tiny percentage of the northern populace that actually watches RL what ought to be considered is that clubs like yours present the image of a time when the north really was flat cap wearing, parochial, mining nostalgic and possibly even xenophobic. One of the reasons we've had the 'expansion' debate we've had and the attendant debacles is the desperation to rid the game of this image and attract a broader audience. My point is that Wakefield are a massive hindrance in this mission and by not facing up to the real issue we continue to stumble into absurd transatlantic forays. Huddersfield, possibly slightly less so and all credit to Ken Davy, but still box office dog doo.

 you don't half talk some rubbish mining was a good honest living at the time which kept families warm giving them electric to serve the nation at cost of lives,
you care not to mention of the Bradford mill past dealings with the slave trade do you, Bradford is a dump the only good thing is the moors and don't come back telling I no nothing of Bradford as my family came from Bradford so for all yer ilkley ba tat I've seen enough of your flat caps and xenophobia to last me a life time

The game is borderline unmarketable

Well in 1996 we got q few quid from the BBC for a semi-pro comp, and our top division played to an average of around 6.000.

Now we get £200,000,000 from SKY and average 8,500.

Vastly improved in modern times.

You should have been around 1970 the game was dying then until BARLA came along. perhaps you just haven't done enough research here?

So we allow the mediocre to hold back the aspiring clubs, who actually want to invest in names that will bring in spectators, such as Wire signing Inglis, which are the type of signings which then get young kids interested in the game again?

So in 50 years wherein a revolution has taken place in sports marketing and TV exposure this is the evidence the game isn't struggling to find significant investment in ownership and sponsorship, and the next TV deal is reported to be a reduction?

That's reassuring.

I take your point, and the Marquee signing allowance took your point into a reality, with Inglis, SBW and Folau now in Superleague.

Not sure I take your point as far as these top players getting a significant number of EXTRA kids interested across the board? If half of Superleague are easybeats then I can see kids not being bothered with the game in places like Wakey, Cas, Fartown etc......

Difficult one. Maybe we have the balance right as it stands?? ,
