Re: Stadium Developments : Tue Dec 06, 2011 1:10 pm
TRB wrote:
The letter is written in reply to a request and confirms that Castleford were willing to partake in a feasibility study into the 2 stadium projects in the summer of 2010.

This was at the point when Cas had realised that they weren't going to be able to raise sufficient funds for GH and it was an attempt to re-direct funds from the council and from NM to the GH project. SWAG and the club (Ted at the time) agreed that it was not right to go into this without the formation of strict guidelines beforehand. The idea was scrapped.

RW makes no mention of the suggestion to undertake exactly the same type of process previously, dating back to the early formation of NM.

Whatever his point may be, it beggars belief that a fellow club would involve themselves in a process such as this and it is, as others have said, a very low blow indeed which harms the reputation of himself and (to a lesser degree) his club.

We have known about this letter for weeks but have waited until it was in the public domain before commenting.

jack in the box wrote:
Unless I read it wrong it goes a bit further than that TRB, correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t it strongly suggest there is no desperate need at all for Wakefield to want a stadium as one is easily achievable for them at Glasshoughton should they so choose. This thereby undermines the central issue at the PH and the main reason why WMDC are backing the Newmarket development on Greenfield land.

Also the way I read it, he tells the nimbys Wakefield have been unreasonable and acted in their own self-interest by pursuing Newmarket and not going along with his suggestion to share at Glasshoughton

Just a few quotes from people who have seen the letter.

Nothing on the Cas forum about this. Wonder what they think of their Chairman's actions.
Are we blinkered because he is against us or is it an unnecessary low blow?

I think the comments from fans of other clubs tells you that it's not our blinkered view!

Well, you could look at some facts instead of just spouting bitter & twisted nonsense.

Glasshoughton has been touted as a community stadium for a lot longer than Newmarket has even been an idea
Why would a council want 2 stadiums with the same purpose built 2 junctions apart
This one is the clincher....since Wakefield rejected a feasibility study, everyone including the council has known which of the 2 potential builds is the most feasible and which one should be the shared community stadium.

All Richard Wright has done is added some balance to the whole proceedings, why should there be a "community" stadium 2 junctions down from another community stadium which is NOT built on greenbelt land and on rambling trails etc and is seen as more feasible by just about everyone?

All that's gone on here is the Wakefield fans through blind hatred of Wright and pride they've launched a hate campaign just because he's spoken the truth.

Rubbish - he has a vested interest in pushing his Stadium through. He did this using Castleford RLFC as a vehicle to scupper another club. It's not balance, where is the balance in allowing Trinity to object to GH! We didn't object at the time and have never objected to GH because Ted Richardson and now Andrew Glover knew it wasn't the right thing to do.

He simply did not need to get involved and there is only one obvious reason why he did and a 5 year old could see that.

Finally you utter liar, GH was never ever touted as a community Stadium until Trinity first tried it with Thornes. The community element is a very recent add on to what was a commercial venture.

You really are pathetic.

Oh come off it!

The Cas stadium is, was and never has been a 'Community Stadium'! You lot were all joking about how much you could charge us - when you thought we were getting no-where. If you don't believe me, go and ask WMDC why they won't release any funding towards GH yet.

We have never said anything against the GH proposals, nor should we, even with this type of provocation, and there is no justification at all for RW to be butting in to our business.

How foolish it is to try and defend the indefensible. :?
