A few journos now reporting that the Wolfpack players have gone on strike over not being paid. They were meant to report for training and Covid-19 testing today and none have turned up.
Hi Derwent,
This was very likely as per the following from a player last week or so
“Enough’s enough,” “I can’t remember the last time we got paid (by TWP) on time. We haven’t been paid for the last month. The thing is the stress that it puts on the team and people in that organisation is madness. “They don’t give a ****. There’s a lot of people owed money. It’s just a disaster. I don’t think people understand the mental stress it puts on people. Some of the players with kids, mortgages, bills – I’m worried. It’s crazy.“We get told the money will be a week late. And then the week comes and no money, and then the next week and the next week. What gets us is we get told on the night the money’s coming and then it just doesn’t come.
“We’re not doing anything until we get paid,” he admitted. “We’ve had 16 weeks off and the competition starts in two weeks, what do they expect us to have one week of training? Can you imagine the injuries? It would be catastrophic.”“The stress that some people are under right now is crazy.“You’re only getting 50 per cent of your wage, in these circumstances that’s fair enough, you’ll cop that. But when you’re owed two months wages as well that’s a lot of ******* stress on you.“I’m just trying to get through it day by day.”
They aren't going to be the fall guys. RFL & SL need to take the whole thing on the chin it's both their faults.....
