I did! Only decided I could afford it yesterday!

But wasn't that the figure a week ago?
Underwhelming. When they first announced the figures for the opener I thought there would be a spurt in the final week and we'd end up with circa 55k.
Probably half or more will only watch England game and won't bother with the Wales game .

| There have never been any official figures and Sadlers isn't either. Anything above 40k is a success but I must admit I'd have hoped for close to 60k.
If figures about sales to locals are to be believed then it isn't them that will keep the crowd down.
I doubt we'll know any figure for sure until the day though.

| One glaring omission in the planning of the competition is the failure to offer cheap coach travel from various SL grounds to Cardiff.

In the main the clubs seem to not care a jot which is dissapointing. My own club (Wigan) have done very very little to get behind the event which is appalling IMO.

That would have been a good move yes, as would have been putting on special trains from Leeds & Manchester.
but what's done is done, and lets hope that Sadler's figure is a bit out of date and we're actually nearer 50k

That is what got me thinking. Leeds seem to often organise trips to England games, but not aware of any other clubs that go out of their way to encourage fans to get behind the national team which is disappointing and short sighted. Coaches could have been organised centrally though, with feeder coaches from various outposts meeting up etc.

| Coach travel is one way of trying to boost the attendance. But I think there has to be some control on expenditure.
Lets say the RFL funded 3 coaches from every club, that's only about 1500 people so it's not going to have a huge impact on the attendance. They can't pay out for a huge amount of coaches as they will be left with a huge bill and empty seats if they are not filled, then we would be calling the RFL fit to burn for incompetency.
Firstly it's not an official figure, secondly lets not forget that people have had expectations raised by others non-announcements.
I too was expecting about 50k, but then maybe I assumed some where more knowledgeable about the figures.
There is still time, but walk ups at such a distance will be few and far between.
It's a catch 22. They got money for hosting a game at Cardiff so they can't ignore it, the only 2 other games that could have been hosted are the final and the semi's.
WOuld Wembley have sold more for the opener??? who knows? I'd still hope for 50k but it will be a tough sell as the rest of the games seem to be doing quite well.

Why does it have to be RFL funded? I am running a coach to Wembley on behalf of Kings Lynn RL club. We aren't doing it for profit having bought 53 tickets through St Albans RL club for £10 each. There are 47 on the coach (costs £660 in total) and charging £20 per adult (35) and nothing for kids (12). I'll have about £40 left in the kitty for a bit of booze for those crazy Norfolk folk (plus Kiwis) who are all looking to the event.
However, it would have been easy to make a profit. I could have charged a bit more, lets say £25 each plus a £5 for kids; this alone would have made a hefty profit for the club. Throw in the cashback incentives if I had bought direct from the RLWC 13 team and it could have been a decent chunk of cash...
If the clubs did this, they could make a packet and help their own finances. However, self interest blinds clubs from reality at times; they are too worried they'll lose income from a drop in their own merchandise/ticket sales etc. The reality is actually very different...

| The RLWC Website has a double Saturday offer, where you can get tickets for England Vs. Ireland and Australia Vs. Fiji, so The England Vs. Ireland tickets aren't sold out just yet if you're after them!

| It's sadly typical of many RL clubs that they can't be bothered to run coaches to these games. Another opportunity for increasing revenue missed by lazy clubs.

| This is where we could learn from the other sport
Clubs are given tickets for internationals to sell to their fans/members and they keep a cut for every ticket sold - a good incentive to sell them. They fill up coaches, make money from it, boost attendances, everyone wins.

I would be more brutal.
I would hold money back from the sky deal in return for tickets to be sold by the clubs, eg £30-50k per club dependent on average crowd, whereby the club retains the revenue from the sale

Remains to be seen, but all the anecdotal assessment of ticketing sites and second guessing can stop in a few days time.

According to Firefox, the RLWC has sold out in it's entirety.
IE8 is reporting a lot of grey areas.
Chrome says it's all too early to call.

| The website is hoeless. Maybe it's demand but whatever its worse than useless. If I wasn't an RL supporter I'd have given up. Did manage to get the seating plans up and book for Wembley - although most blocks didn't seem yo have 2 seats together. But the plans have gone again and I can't book Old Trafford.

Hopefully the plans going means they are finally updating them, I have visions of RFL staff sat there with Crayola Crayons colouring in the blocks manually!
