BTW, if the draw pans out as per seeding, then the second Semi-final crowd will bare little resemblance to the reported figure for the first.......there'll be more people at London mainline stations catching trains home than will hang around to see Australia hammer Australia b
I'm sure some will leave, but I'm sure many, like myself, will stay until the end, not least because the coach back isn't until 9!

I find the arguing about how to calculate the average of the double headers baffling! The total attendance shouldn't be doubled, but it also shouldn't be counted as 2 games, i.e the average of the whole tournament is calculated by dividing by 26 fixtures, not 28. You can't buy a ticket for one game at either of double headers and not the other, therefore the event should be treated as one fixture.
So you would average a 28 game tournament by dividing the total attendance by 26? You would pretend the tournament only had one semi-final?
The easiest, simpliest, and fairest way, in fact the only way to calculate the average attendance of a tournament is to add up all the tickets sold for all the games and divide it by the number of games there was, anything else needs us to either ignore fixtures or amend attendances to different totals than they were. Its simple, you divide the sum by the count. If you then want to add in a proviso regarding the double headers, fine. But there is no point pretending that however many people attended the double header didn’t attend 2 games, they obviously did.

It's not pretending that their were fewer fixtures than their actually were though is it! You can't physically buy a ticket for one game of the opening ceremony, or for just semi final 1 or semi final 2. You have to buy a ticket for both games. So although there are 28 games of RL being played, there are effectively 26 fixtures due to the 2 double headers. You can't treat them as separate games for attendance purposes. The example of the Magic weekends has been used, you get a daily average rather than per game becuase you can get single day tickets but not ones for single games.

There's probably an argument that you should count the attendance for the double headers twice?

You can treat them as separate games because they are separate games. 4 different teams will be playing in 2 games. It makes zero sense to pretend that is 2 teams playing 1 game.
And if you include 1/7th of the magic weekend in your clubs attendance total you would be wrong, because there wasn’t an 8.5k attendance to any of the Magic Weekend games. There was either 30k or 31k. There are 2 games being played, there will be 2 attendances, they are simply included on one ticket.
Clubs have season tickets, mini season tickets, you can buy RLWC multi-game packages, none of these people who purchase 1 ticket for multiple games are stripped out.
If you only use 26 games, you are ignoring 2 games with 2 attendances and stripping them out of the calculation.
We know that 31k attended Leeds V Wigan on Day 2 of the magic weekend, we know the same attended the Bradford V Hudds, Salford V Widnes and Sts v Wire. So ask yourself what was the average attendance for those 4 games on day 2 of the Magic Weekend 31k who attended the 4 games or 8 k?
Just as we know a X number of people will attended semi-final 1, and X number of people will attend semi-final 2. To average those we would add them together and divide them by 2. We wouldn’t just pretend one didn’t happen.

You should, there are two games and two attendances. There are 28 games being played with 28 attendances. Just add up all the attendances and divide them by the number of games. WE don’t strip any out, we don’t ignore any and we don’t amend any.
Why are we bothering about this? Some people are coming across as miserable nit picking b*gg*rs. Other sports do it all the time what is all the fuss? Here's an example of the recent RU double header at Twickenham
RU even claim 4billion viewing figures for their WC FFS. Let's talk our sport up and move on.

I havent read all the tripe on here as no doubt it will be the same 2 or 3 culprits having their own personal 'stats' battles and all that boring stuff which now agourns just about EVERY thread on this but :
I couldn't care less how many tickets are discounted , and by how much cos as a Rugby League fan it means me and thousands others get to see our National team, and in other cases, lots of different national teams for a price that is affordable - lots, like me, are out of work and skint so the fact that i can go and watch my National team in a World Cup match in my local town for £5 is nothing short of bloody marvellous !!
