Correct, SBW and Luetele will obviously count for their £150k per year, but nothing more than that. They are overpaying average players, which is always the case when you have a club in the championship / bottom of SL trying to spend big to sign the best - players want to be paid more to play for lower placed clubs.
I think the complaint is that players have to house themselves in Toronto, as well as pay for a house back home in the UK as the families aren't going to move to Toronto full time given the players are in the UK more than half the time anyway. I understand the argument, but it will be a tough one to get the SL chairmen to agree on. When Catalan play games in the UK I presume the cost of housing them in hotels will be classed as an operating expense and not a perk. The RFL obviously classify the Toronto situation differently as they will be living there for a number of weeks and it is there home patch.
And we all thought that Toronto was the dream destination for RL players
On the subject of "non playing" costs. It must cost them a small fortune to come accross to Europe, even if this is in 2 game blocks.
However, I'm sure that this was fully thought through before they began chasing the SL dream and there is extra cost for the existing SL clubs (going in the other direction) - not exactly ideal when most SL clubs are barely keeping their heads above water.
And there are some who believe that SL should include 4/5 such clubs, along with 2 French sides
